The starting point of this tour is in the picturesque historic center of Pontremoli, right next to the medieval Cresa Bridge. From here continue through the village until you reach Colle del Piagnaro and its castle, then go down to Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica and exit the village through Porta Fiorentina. Continue towards Filattiera along the Via Francigena through the village of Santissima Annunziata, until you enter the Valle del Caprio and continue along the Nature Trail towards Ponticello and its medieval tower-houses.

Once you have left the village, stay on the Via Francigena pedaling along the banks of the Magra River to the Romanesque parish church of Sorano. Then go up the Bagnone Valley to the village of the same name and its castle in the direction of Villafranca Lunigiana. At this point, follow the beautiful paths immersed in the greenery of the Mulazzo Nature Trail to finally return to the historic center of Pontremoli.

Along the way there are self-repair columns and countless stops for tourist visits and food and wine experiences. The starting point of this tour is easily accessible by train. Pontremoli is in fact located along the Parma - La Spezia railway line, served by frequent regional trains that also allow bike transport.

Pontremoli Cathedral (Co-Cathedral of Saint Mary of the People)

Highlight • Religious Site

Pontremoli - shaking bridge - is the northernmost town in all of Tuscany and one of the most distinctive centers of Lunigiana. Built on a plain surrounded by hills and mountains, the city is a small jewel of artistic and monumental heritage. It is recognized by historians as the mythical Apua, the ancient capital of the Ligurian-Apuanian civilization. By crossing the medieval bridges and walking along the streets, you will find yourself in a mythical era. It is also a stop on the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route that connects Canterbury in England with Rome.

Filattiera Nature Trail

Highlight • Trail

Pleasant nature trail that develops on simple dirt roads along the Magra river up to the Alice lake, also known as del Frantoio. Between the lake and the river bank there is a picnic area for a break in the countryside.

Ancient fiefdom of the Malaspina family of "Spino Secco". Villafranca is located along the Via Francigena, and both in the heart of the town and in its numerous hamlets it is possible to admire notable vestiges of the important medieval past of these lands.

For the description I refer you to the site.
In a couple of places I modified the original track, after Migliarina in the section that passes near the Magra compared to the original track I lengthened the section near the river to make as little state road as possible because it is a bit dangerous, when you arrive to find …
