It was great. I'm creating a collection for the extra tours in the Lahn-Dill Uplands: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/3941047/-extratouren-im-lahn-dill-bergland
Parking at the old glass container on Hüttenstraße in Mornshausen.
Hello everyone, Typical May 1st tour with fun and atmosphere. In Mornshausen and the surrounding area there were also several stands with bratwurst and drinks. Even at the Koppeturm they were sizzling and serving food! So there was plenty of food for everyone. If you want to find fault with anything, it was simply very warm. So a great route, a great area - an entertaining route that you can walk several times... Background from the tourism side: Extra tour post robbery route After six previous failed attempts, on May 19, 1822 eight poor farmers and day laborers from Kombach attacked the monthly mail coach that travels from Gladenbach to Gießen. The attack took place in the Subach, a sunken road near Mornshausen. The loot amounted to 10,466 guilders. However, the sudden wealth proved to be the poor farmers' downfall. They were convicted of the crime. Robber captain David Briel, whose idea it was to rob the post office, evaded arrest and the death sentence by fleeing to America. A second robber is said to have escaped to South Africa and lived "in luxury" there. Two of those arrested committed suicide. The other four post office robbers died on the scaffold in Gießen on October 7, 1824. In 1971, Volker Schlöndorff created a memorial to the post office robbery in the Subach with the film "The Sudden Wealth of the Poor People of Kombach". The extra tour post office robbery route takes hikers past the original scene of the post office robbery in the Subach. But the path offers much more. The observation tower on the Erdhausener Koppe offers hikers impressive views of the Salzböde valley. Also noteworthy are the forest fields "Weites Feld" and "Rodenhausen Nord", as well as the salt spring in the Salzböde valley with a rest area. The Kornhaus with a restaurant and beer garden at the end of the circular hiking trail invites you to stop for a rest. See you out there soon 😎! Greetings Madze ****
Today we went to the beautiful Lahn-Dill mountain region on the extra tour "Postraubroute" https://naturpark.lahn-dill-bergland.de/wandern/extratouren/postraubroute/ I have already hiked all of the extra tours in 2015. This time I will do the tours "the other way around". This means I walked the Postraubroute anti-clockwise this time.
Today it was time for another tour of the Lahn-Dill mountain range. You can find this in the hiking collection under the name "Postal Robbery Route". During the tour you pass the same ravine where eight farmers robbed a money coach in 1822 and stole almost 10,500 guilders. 💰 Seven of the eight perpetrators were caught and five of them were sentenced to death. Only one escaped and presumably fled to America. There is an interesting Wikipedia entry about this event for anyone who wants to know a little more. The real highlight of the tour, however, is the Koppeturm with its impressive 360° view, as well as the numerous foxglove meadows that can be admired everywhere along the way. 🌺 I hope all Komootlers have fun following it and have a nice evening. 😁
A great route. Unfortunately, the view is limited when it's foggy. But the forest is beautiful and mystical. There's also the narrow path (Postraub) and the observation tower. Lots of places to rest and sit.
I started the post robbery route at an autumnal 6° and finished it at 14°. Unfortunately I was too early and couldn't really enjoy the view from the Koppeturm with its 82 steps because of the fog
Today the extra tour post robbery route was on the plan. However, as a men's hike, so more breaks and slower than usual. The paths were extremely broken and muddy due to wood felling
