https://naturpark.lahn-dill-bergland.de/wandern/extratouren/koehlerweg/ Yesterday we were so enthusiastic about the LDB path that we treated ourselves to another round today. This time a short round - the Köhlerweg. This was also very nice, extremely well signposted, there was a lot to see and the views were great. My personal highlight was “Die Koppe”. A basal elevation typical of the LDK country consisting of the usual basalt columns with an outstanding view. Formed in the Tertiary Age 10-25 million years ago. Once again you feel insignificant and just a drop on the hot timeline stone of galactic roulette. Absolutely impressive! Great round with maybe 500 meters of asphalt, otherwise only paths and forest roads. That's exactly how we like it. The tour had a funny side effect. When we arrived at the starting point we recognized the parking lot. Walked a few steps we still knew everything. This was one of our first Komoot tours. But we were still so "new" back then that we didn't recognize this round as an LDB tour 🤣 Happy Sunday everyone ☀️
A nice round with many great views. Even took a little nap in the sun on one of the beautiful loungers in the best weather 🙈 Unfortunately, the Achilles tendon is pinching a bit at the moment, so it's a very leisurely pace today.
This tour is also a premium hiking trail in the Lahn-Dill mountains. Well signposted, the path often leads across meadows and on forest paths. Cozy benches and rest areas often await hikers along the way. Always with a great view. We also really enjoyed this hike and are happy to recommend it to others.
Today I went to the Lahn-Dill Uplands for the "Extratour Köhlerweg" (Koehler Trail). https://naturpark.lahn-dill-bergland.de/wandern/extratouren/koehlerweg/ I hiked these circular trails 10 years ago. So this time I went the other way, i.e., counterclockwise. I parked at the Dreisbach barbecue hut (Ehringshausen), which was also my starting/finishing point. (The small, unfortunately roughly graveled hiking parking lot 100 meters further down from the hiking entrance is unfortunately not "very inviting." This means I don't have an off-road vehicle.) ---- For me, as a native of Siegerland, the Lahn-Dill Uplands was/is a beautiful hiking region: The forests there seem to be 99% deciduous. This means it still looks the same today as it did "before the bark beetles." Unfortunately, this can no longer be said for the Siegerland and Sauerland (previously heavily spruce-covered areas), as large forest-free areas have emerged. :( Many "new vistas" have emerged... but I prefer the forest anyway.
At 19° and sunshine, Daniel hikes the Köhlerweg alone.
https://naturpark.lahn-dill-bergland.de/wandern/extratouren/koehlerweg/ Another short hike today, as we're about to get back to work on the renovation. We quickly picked up the last few items at the building materials center and took the LDB Köhlerweg trail with us on the way back. We've been here a few times before, but in this gloomy weather and rather humid, oppressive temperatures, it wasn't quite as easy. A very nice day - now it's time again. Have a nice Saturday everyone 🙋🏻♂️ Lahn-Dill-Bergland Collection: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/1444264/-ldb-lahn-dill-bergland
In the center of the Hörre, a mountain range that rises east of the Dill in the Lahn-Dill mountains, you can hike on the certified Köhlerweg since 2009. The Köhlerweg owes its name to the fact that charcoal is still actively extracted from charcoal piles in the Lemptal. Not on a grand scale, of course, but above all to preserve tradition, because it is extremely tedious to stack around five times the amount of wood for 20kg of charcoal, seal it airtight and keep it smoldering for several days and weeks. But don't worry: As a hiker on the Köhlerweg, you are not obligated to help and it is not even guaranteed that you will actually see an active kiln on the way. But this is not decisive either, because on the Köhlerweg you will be rewarded with plenty of nature anyway. The starting point of the circular route is the Schaumeiler on the outskirts of Dreisbach, a small part of the municipality of Ehringshausen. Here is a parking lot with enough parking spaces and an information board - a hiking portal of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park - presents the Köhlerweg again on site. The Köhlerweg heads south from the Schaumeiler and heads for the Lemptal, which is reached at the Grundmühle. From here it goes west, always including beautiful views of the Hörre and the Hessian Westerwald rising beyond the Dilltal. At the southwestern apex, the Köhlerweg reaches the Koppe (354m). Around the Koppe, the first nature reserve in the old district of Wetzlar was designated in 1931. Today, 24 hectares of a beautiful stand of oak hornbeams and sessile oaks are protected. From the Koppe you have a beautiful view of the southern Lahn-Dill-Bergland, the Gleiberger Land and the heights of the Westerwald. According to local tradition, the Koppe is said to have been a meeting place for witches and magicians from the Greifensteiner Land on Walpurgis Night. Since the opening of the Köhlerweg, however, no hiker has gone astray. The Köhlerweg continues north. Beautiful views of the valleys of Stippbach and Amstelbach open up again and again until the path leads east again at Dreisbach, circles the village and leads back to the starting point.
