The easy circular hike around the Oderteich in the Harz National Park between Sonnenberg and Oderbrück has no significant inclines, takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and is therefore also recommended for trips with children. The tour, which partly runs on narrow boardwalks and root paths, is not suitable for wheelchairs or prams.
The Oderteich is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Rammelsberg mine, Goslar old town and Upper Harz water management system. All around the Oderteich, the forest can be observed in all its facets as it transforms into wilderness. Dead spruces alternate with young wild forest that is in the starting blocks and will develop with more species and structures than it was before.

You can swim in summer in designated areas on the east and west banks of the Oderteich. Boating and stand-up paddling (SUP) are not permitted.

This small beautiful round has formally imposed itself for the day of departure. Unfortunately, many others thought so too. A bit too busy for my taste, but it was definitely still within limits. Absolutely to suggest!!! Unfortunately, the photos got totally mixed up when importing them. 🤷🏼♀️
If you love nature, this is the right place for you. However, sturdy shoes and surefootedness are essential. The path sometimes goes over roots, a solid forest path or wooden walkways over the moor.
For the 2nd time in the Harz Mountains and I had to do a lap around the Oderteich. That was my absolute highlight in 2020, mainly because of the many small biotopes along the way that you could discover...... In addition, this year the stark difference. The effects of the warm and dry summer can be felt everywhere, water is in short supply. Nevertheless, this time it was a nice and varied round and the next time I'm in the Harz Mountains, I'll stop by again and hope that there will be enough water again..
At the end of the short visit to the Harz Mountains, a short, frosty (-7 ° C) hike around the Oderteich. If you start early on a large parking lot for hikers, the pond can be completely circled once. The path around it is very rustic - i.e. sometimes very rooty. But that also makes the path interesting again. Conclusion: Even if the circumnavigation is only very short, it is a very worthwhile goal. Therefore 5 out of 5 stars!

A nice tour, also suitable for children, as the path has many roots or bridges. So not a hike but an adventure trail, there is a lot to discover. Not really suitable for the stroller, the elderly should be sure-footed. The last part to the waterfall can be shortened, but this is still a real adventure, because there it goes downhill and uphill on many small winding paths.
Parking free of charge, water unfortunately - like almost everywhere - hardly available
