Hiking

The Trôs-Marets is a real mountain stream that has been making its way through slate and quartzite for centuries. On this hike you will explore its wild valley. Although the tour is not particularly long at around five kilometers in length, it should not be underestimated due to the sometimes difficult path. For your safety, a cable has been anchored into the rock at these rocky and narrow spots along the creek, giving you extra support. Sturdy shoes are a must if you want to enjoy this mountainous gorge.

Right at the starting point at the Ferme Libert you enter the forest, which will accompany and enchant you throughout the hike. You descend into the valley and you can already hear the rushing of the water. Once you have reached the stream, a rustic wooden bridge will take you to the opposite bank. The further you walk up the wild and natural stream, the narrower the valley becomes. The stony and partly exposed path runs between water and rock, which even partly seem to merge with each other. At the turning point you leave the narrow gorge behind you and hike back to Ferme Libert on the high trail.

An excellent starting point for a hike. Parking is prohibited on the restaurant premises, as indicated by the owner's signs. However, there are parking spaces on the side of the road opposite the restaurant.

Trôs Marets Valley

Highlight • Gorge

The Trôs Marets stream turns into a torrent and threads its way between imposing blocks of quartzite and sandstone, forming waterfalls

It is one of the few streams in Belgium with such a torrential course, so much so that some call it the "canyon of Trôs Marets".

Nice round, found on Komoot, but the description "easy" is not quite accurate. Partly very steep and narrow, stony paths

Short but spectacular hike through the canyon formed by a torrent and back across the Fagnes plateau. Can be easily combined with other hikes in the region. Template and information about the tour: https://www.ostbelgien.eu/de/fiche/hiking/enjoyment-tour-04-der-canyon-des-tros-maret

Quickly, one more small loop around the back through an enchanted gorge with lots of nature and great impressions. Lots of experience in 5km🤗

Had a lovely walk with my sister in the Ardennes 🤩

We took this tour from this page https://www.ostbelgien.eu/de/wandern/alle-wandern?hik%5BhikingWithChildren%5D=1 It actually feels like a small mountain tour. It is exciting to run and very varied. The initially narrow path leads a lot along the stream. This is often a few meters below, so you should be careful with the very small kids. After rain, the tour is a bit muddy and slippery, so you should be prepared. It is not uncommon for you to have to avoid larger mud holes. The parking situation at the start may not be for everyone, as it is on a steep slope. The tour is not suitable for prams or other rolling vehicles and especially when it rains, it is not suitable for Sunday shoes. Nevertheless, the tour is absolutely worth a detour, the splashing of the river and the lush green of the mixed forests let you switch off quickly, while the path gives the kids hardly any reason to be bored.

Super fun trail to walk. Very easy to do for everyone provided you have good mobility and wear suitable footwear! Route is well marked in blue, easy to follow! Dogs are not allowed at the restaurant at the starting point! Tip for the dog lovers among us who like to go hiking with their four-legged friend, just like us....
