Located in the middle of the Black Forest National Park, the Wildsee exudes a kind of calm. An achievement for the animal and plant world.

Julius Euting Memorial and Grave

Highlight • Monument

Julius Euting was a passionate hiker, u. a. President of the Vosges Club from 1876 to 1912, and was nicknamed "Ruhesteinvater" because of his fondness for hiking in the Black Forest. At his request, he was buried on a mountain ridge on the Seekopf in the northern Black Forest, roughly halfway between his home in Stuttgart / Tübingen and his place of work in Strasbourg. His grave can still be visited there today. Every year on his birthday on July 11th, according to a testamentary decree of Euting, Arabic mocha is served there - which in turn is related to his research area, oriental studies. Darmstädter Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Always delicious food and drinks. There is plenty of outdoor seating around the hut. The hut is located directly on the Westweg and is therefore also a good stopover with overnight accommodation.

View of Seebach

Highlight • Viewpoint

A nice bench with an even nicer view awaits here.
Only the noise from the street spoils the picture a bit.

Worth a walk

Today, a short loop, Ruhestein, Wildseeblick, Darmstädter Hütte, and back down the other side.
Unfortunately, I've run out of blueberry pie again 😞

We hiked with the school children (grades 1-4) from Ruhestein to the Darmstädter Hütte and back. For some of the children, it was their first time so high up in the Black Forest, with a fantastic view! First, they spotted a squirrel 🐿️, then loads of mushrooms 🍄‍🟫🍄 and deadwood. They kept bending down to collect stones. Some had red …

After a visit to the Ruhestein National Park Center (highly recommended), take a short walk. We actually wanted to go to Wildsee, but the path is closed until mid-March.

Today we had a little cozy round with lots of sun and plenty of time😎☀️

Today we went into the snow as planned, in the hope that there wasn't so much going on and we were lucky. There were a few tobogganists at the Ruhestein, but there was very little traffic around the back to the Darmstädter Hütte. On the way back we were parallel to the B500. This is the signposted route from the …

I like this round because it's great to go with the family. In the beginning you can take a retro single-seater chairlift up the mountain for a few euros. At the top, the path runs on a plateau and you get a reward in the form of a great view of the Wildsee. If you follow the path, you get …

Today I took the X45 from Baden-Baden up the Black Forest High Road and explored the area around the Ruhestein National Park Museum a little.
Perfect hiking weather!

I really wanted to see the National Park Museum, otherwise I would have walked straight down to Mummelsee.
The museum was made with love and understanding (maybe a bit kitschy??) and it's …
