Baiersbronner Sankenbachsteig – Schwarzwald Enjoyment Path

The gourmet path Baiersbronner Sankenbachsteig offers varied experiences such as the Sankenbachsee, the Sankenbach waterfall, natural paths and a rustic stop in the Glasmännlehütte at an altitude of 777 meters.

The start is at the chairlift parking lot and leads along the Kienbächle for the first few meters to the game reserve. Arrived at the edge of the forest, the path begins to rise slightly and leads past a forest playground over the Sankenbach ford on a narrow path to the romantic Sankenbachsee.

The Sankenbachsee is one of the five cirque lakes in the municipality of Baiersbronn, which were created during the last and penultimate ice age. There are over 60 clearly recognizable cirques in the Baiersbronn district. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of the lake during a short rest on the lake shore and enjoy the impressive sight. The rest of the route then leads over natural paths and a medium-difficult climb for experienced hikers (good shoes recommended) to the Sankenbach waterfalls. The steep Karwand rises up enormously and lets the Sankenbach fall from a 40 m high, two-stage waterfall into the Sankenbachsee.

After this impressive nature experience you reach the waterfall hut. From here the path continues past the Raiblesbrunnen on natural paths and gravel paths to the next rest stop, the Wasenhütte. A short break at the Wasenhütte is enlivened by the magnificent view of Freudenstadt. The city was commissioned in 1599 by Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg as the intended residence of the Duchy of Württemberg and was planned and built by the city master builder Schickardt.

The Genießerpfad now follows an old trade route, the Grubersteig, downhill to Friedrichstal. For centuries, this route was an important trade route past the pass and customs station at the Kniebis monastery. But wood and charcoal for the blast furnaces in Friedrichstal were also transported this way. The deeply incised ravine still bears impressive witness to this today. Even if Friedrichstal may seem rather inconspicuous at first glance, this small town in the municipality of Baiersbronn has a great history. Arriving at the edge of the forest not far from the Michaelskirche in Friedrichstal, it is already uphill again in the direction of the Stöckerkopf, where the Glasmännlehütte, which is open all year round, invites you to a well-deserved stop. From here you have a sensational panoramic view over Baiersbronn.

The demanding, rocky descent continues with great views over Baiersbronn and the Murg Valley to the Stöckerkopfwegle and on to the Sohlberg, Stöck and the Stöckerweg. As the crowning glory of the tour, treat yourself to a schnapps at the Kalmbach family's schnapps fountain before you get to the starting point of the chairlift car park.

Two variants lead through the Iron Age in Friedrichstal: a detailed, 4.6 km long circuit and a slightly shorter, barrier-free path of 2.7 km.
