The lake is beautiful, a good place to rest and marvel at nature. The last of the seven lakes. The others disappeared due to the construction of the Vienna Hochquell water pipeline.

It is more than a century since Emperor Franz Josef opened the second Vienna high-altitude spring water pipeline in 1910. Due to its importance and the enormous construction effort, a separate museum was dedicated to it and its builders.

The Siebensee circuit is not called Siebensee circuit because of 7 lakes, but the area is called Siebensee. Water is transported from the Hochschwab via the Wildalpen to Vienna through valuable aqueducts of the second Viennese high spring water pipeline. The federal capital Vienna is supplied with drinking water and it is advisable to drink a good sip of water in Wildalpen at the source. Rugged, steeply rising rock faces, decorated with colorful alpine flowers and species-rich wildlife make for a great natural wonder of the Wild Alps.
