Let yourself be enchanted by the village of goblins! Achouffe is located in the Val de Fay and on the Martin Moulin and Chevral streams and is one of the most charming villages in Belgium. At the confluence of the two waterways, near the bridge, the fish farm "Pisciculture Domaniale" was founded.

Achouffe is known for its brewery, among other things. The Chouffe beer brewed here is brewed only with water from the Cedrogne spring, which gives it its unique taste.

Do you know the goblin legend? According to legend, these dwarf figures from the Ardennes lived in a cave (the "Trou des Nutons" on the Route de La Roche in Houffalize) and had a tunnel that ran between Taverneux and Sommerain to the Notre-Dame de Fôret chapel. At night, they repaired the residents' shoes, which is why Houffalize became known as the city of goblins. The legend originates from 1807, when two deserters fled to the town and sought shelter in a cave. They were shoemakers. At night, the local residents would put their torn shoes and food at the entrance to the cave and find them repaired the next morning.

After the tour, you can stop off at the brewery's tavern.

A top location that you can't miss. The red gnome hat is visible from every parking lot. A place to be... Gnomes from the brewery live here in perfect harmony with the villagers and their guests. Enjoy the delicious barley juice in a charming environment.
Keep your eyes open during the tastings, maybe you'll see not one but two gnomes cross your path afterwards.

In the Parc naturel des Deux Ourthes you will find breathtaking views over the valleys and the winding river Ourthe, which winds deep through the landscape. At the right time of year, the foxglove blooms here, which gives the landscape an extra colorful charm with its beautiful purple hues.

Fairy Valley Achouffe

Highlight • Forest

Colorful mushrooms make the scenery of the valley enchanting.
In the capricious and restless bed of Martin Moulin, the gnomes still have a lot of work to do. Traces of the abundant rainfall from last summer 2021 are still clearly visible. Many obstacles have to be overcome.
The recommended hare trail takes you along muddy and crumbling footpaths back into the valley of Achouffe at a rapid pace.

Very nice walk along the river. Enchanting landscapes. A bit sporty especially in wet weather. Done in two hours.

Very nice tour through the Ardennes. The last third of the route is very difficult due to heavy rain and wind throws. The route can hardly be seen in places. High shoes are recommended and you should be sure-footed. In terms of landscape, however, this piece in particular is very attractive.

Avoid in wet conditions because some passages are quite hard. Very little road. Not suitable for strollers, toddlers and people with reduced mobility.

Very beautiful but difficult/slightly dangerous in some places. Still a beautiful walk and I will definitely do it again

Had a wonderful weekend with my sports club and ended with a nice walk in Achouffe.

Beautiful walk, with occasional intense parts. Probably because the water was so high today.

Enjoy playing clay along the Ruisseau Moulin Martin, thanks to the beavers and of course the wet weather. This bank is difficult to navigate in winter after a wet period, but very nice!

Today we went looking for fairies and gnomes in Achouffe. A beautiful and adventurous walk written by Pasar. The picturesque village of Achouffe, part of Houffalize, is hidden deep in the 'Fairy Valley', which, according to legend, is also home to gnomes. We did not encounter any gnomes but enjoyed the beautiful fairy valley to the full. The walk was quite adventurous and at times tough: many hiking trails were 'absorbed' by the water, so we had to look for alternatives: make a bridge yourself with tree trunks, climb over the rocks, occasionally walk through the water,...
