Gravel riding

On this tour you drive over one of the most famous road passes in the Alps: the Postalmstraße. The tour is not as gravelly as some others, but it still has a lot to offer. Your gravel bike will definitely be challenged really well on a wide variety of surfaces. The tour is perfect if you want to explore as much of the area as possible.

It starts at the train station in the small town of Golling. First it goes to the breathtaking Bluntausee and from there to the Gollinger waterfall. These are two must-sees in the Golling area that you should not miss. Then it's back to Golling and this is where the serious part of the tour begins. A steep climb awaits you, eventually turning into a short stretch of rough dirt road with some larger rocks. After a short passage on asphalt, it continues down into the valley on gravel. You follow a beautiful and winding asphalt road until you reach a fountain on the left. Here you can fill your bottles with cool water.

Then you get to a big highlight: the Alte Postalmstraße. This used to be the road to the Postalm and is still a cycle path today. The road mostly has a nice and rideable incline and is never too rough. There are plenty of photo spots in this canyon-like landscape. At the top of the Postalm you can then strengthen yourself to be prepared for the way back. Now you roll down the new, paved "Postalmstraße". This is also fun with the Gravel! Then you get back to Golling and can end your workday in a cozy inn.

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The historic street has long been closed to public traffic. This makes it all the nicer to ride a mountain bike or gravel bike here: over bridges and gorges and along the Aubach, this road is a pure delight in the landscape.

Definitely the highlight of my stay in Salzburg! Outstanding views, nice climb and fast descent. Of course, I also took the classics Bluntausee and Gollinger Wasserfall with me. Will definitely come again! 🤩
