This route was planned by komoot.
The hike comes from the book "Wander Dich glücklich" by Sabine Parschau, which was published by Bruckmann Verlag. This publisher has a number of books about outdoor activities... However, I did - some will say "as always" - tinker a little with the tour: First of all, I moved the starting point from the car park at the Tomburg to a slightly less busy car park on the edge of the forest above the Tomburg. On the one hand, I wanted to avoid the many families who make a trip to the castle ruins when the weather is sunny. On the other hand, the Tomburg is the end of the hike - at least in the version I did. The second change was to reverse the direction of the hike. This change gives you a beautiful view of the Cologne/Bonn Bay and the Siebengebirge behind Todenfeld. Otherwise, I did the route as suggested in the book. The route is quite pleasant and varied. However, the section between Waldkapelle and Tomburg could be designed a little differently to avoid a section of forest highway and to further increase the proportion of paths. And the section between Tomburg and Ziel should also be doable without the asphalt section just before the car park. Let's see if I get around to trying a few changes soon... Today the motto was more "Hike yourself dirty", because given the weather conditions in the last few weeks, many sections were, as expected, pretty muddy...
Very nice round, with lots of forest and beautiful distant views.
I did this route from Sabine Parschau's book "Wander Dich glücklich" (Hike Yourself Happy) at the beginning of February – back then, I used (almost) the original version (https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2038079862). I slightly modified some sections of this version. This increased the proportion of trails (instead of forest highways). However, there are also sections on less frequently used paths where blackberries or similar plants can overgrow the path... The changes: After about 2.2 km, I passed the Eisensteine (iron stones) and walked into the valley of the Hilberather Bach. At the bottom, I turned right, followed the path for a few meters, and then climbed uphill in a small side valley to Todenfeld. The section directly along the stream, in particular, seems to be less frequently used and could become a bit overgrown in the spring. After about 6.4 km, I didn't turn off towards the Schwarzen Kreuz (Black Cross), but continued straight ahead for a bit. This way, you pass a simple shelter (where you then turn right) and approach the forest chapel via paths rather than a forest highway. After about 8.2 km, for the same reason (more path, less highway), I followed the chapel path a good distance further and reached the Tomburg in a small curve. After descending from the Tomburg, I took a small detour through the forest to avoid the paved path to the parking lot. This also affords a beautiful view towards the Tomburg and the Siebengebirge mountains at the end... If you're in the area, both versions of the hike are a lovely loop worth doing...
Today @Nicole and I went for a nice walk in the Rheinbach forest. Since we walked a lot under trees, the route was very pleasant. At the same time, the views of the Rhine plain were fascinating. We also filled up our backpacks at the farm shop in Todenfeld. @Nicole, thank you for the great day of hiking together.
Today I did a wonderful tour through the Rheinbach Forest and the beginning of the Voreifel with @Liz Bonn. It started at the Tomburg, then the way led to Todenfeld. The views in this area are just awesome. Also today we passed a farm shop "Der Hofladen" in Todenfeld. We bought so much that our backpacks got quite heavy. But what don't you do for good food...
