Vieuxville is a section of the Belgian municipality of Ferrières, located in the Walloon Region in the province of Liège. It is located at the confluence of the Lembrée and the Ourthe. A Merovingian cemetery with 190 tombs was discovered there. This discovery covers a period from the beginning of the 5th century to the middle of the 7th century. It is one of the oldest Merovingian cemeteries in Wallonia. You can also visit the Logne fortified castle and its underground passages. A narrow rock spur allowed the construction of this castle. This high-rise bastion, once protecting the limits of the Principality of Stavelot-Malmédy, was destroyed on May 1, 1521 by the troops of Emperor Charles V. A very pretty walk of almost 8km where the starting and return point is located in the very beautiful village of Vieuxville... The car park is located near a beautiful local stone farm which houses the archaeological museum and the tourist information office... This walk begins with magnificent wooded paths covered by limestone ¨rocks¨ which can be slippery in rainy weather. Above the ridges we have pretty views, notably on the ruins of the Logne castle. The descent takes us to the foot of the Ourthe (which today was very wild following the torrential rain the day before) We continue our walk by crossing the Palogne estate (where a multitude of sporting activities are offered there) we follow the direction of the walk in the company of the river. We leave the forest where the direction of the walk takes us to the village of Vieuxville, path that gradually brings us back to our starting point A great discovery, but following the rain of the last few days one or two markers are missing and in some places the terrain is very slippery and muddy, Good walking shoes are recommended
Beautiful walking route from a cottage near Izier in the Ardennes. Very varied with climbing and descending over rocky paths. Sometimes straight through a meadow and then diving into the forest a little later. Rest for a while at a babbling brook and then continue via narrow paths with this adventurous tour! A great recommendation!
