The classic cycle path in the Upper Palatinate Forest takes you over around 90 kilometers from Luhe-Wildenau to the gates of Regensburg - mostly along the natural course of the Naab. Probably the most striking feature are the numerous castles along the route, for example Lengenfeld Castle or the Kallmünz…

>> Monday, 22.05. << Today was the third and last part of my Upper Palatinate round trip. The journey started from Etzenricht first along the Haidenaab. After only a few km it flows into the Naab near Unterwildenau and I then followed this course of the river down to Testing (Regensburg), where it then flows into the Danube. It was a really great and very varied day route 🤩👏. I really enjoyed not only cycling along the beautiful Naab, but I had also taken enough time to look at the towns and small towns of Nabburg, Schwarzenfeld, Schwandorf, Burglengenfeld and Markt Kallmünz with pleasure, which until now had only been known to me by name were known. My first 3-day tour for a long time through the beautiful Upper Palatinate, which was just a lot of fun and pure joy for me 🥰. With text I'm a little shorter today than on the 2 previous days 😅, but I'll just let the rest of my photo book speak more 😁. PS: Packing the 💯er wasn't really a problem for me that day - compared to the day before 🥵. This time it was only chilled downstream and after an initial, slow warm-up and cycling from 20 - 30 km, the knee felt much better again 😊🙏. The therapeutic vinegar-oil dressing of the delicious sausage salad from the night before probably also had a positive after-effect 🤣🤣. Men/women simply NEVER stop learning, thanks for the 🔥 tip @oidawolf 🤭🤣👍!!
This tour is part of my collection "The Danube and its tributaries" Actually there is no Naabquelle. It only arises through the confluence of the Waldnaab and Haidennaab near Wildenau. I had originally planned this point as a starting point. In terms of transport and accommodation, I then decided on Weiden in der Oberpfalz (Seltmann Weiden, Witt Weiden) and that was a good thing. Weiden has a very, very beautiful city center!!! Historical buildings, many owner-managed retail shops and the extremely good culinary offer are unique! The pictures taken on the morning of departure do not reflect what was the evening before: all the seats (hundreds) in front of the many bars were occupied, a very relaxed atmosphere with Mediterranean flair until late at night. Live and let live the best. Be that as it may, this bike tour started at 7 a.m. in the morning at a fresh 14 degrees C. The first part is uninteresting: too little Naab and too much railway and motorway, so you drive past the junction of the A6 / A93, for example. The railway has collected plus points again today: At a level crossing in the middle of nowhere, it was said: blocked. No notice beforehand. As soon as the warning was photographed, a train came thundering (see pictures). There was only one thing left: to behave like in the time when there were only St. Andrew's crosses. The Naab is dammed again and again to protect against flooding and to generate electricity. This creates many widenings and lakes that can hardly be distinguished from a natural floodplain landscape. From Schwandorf / Burglengenfeld it gets nicer, the valley narrows, the railway and motorway disappear and you are alone with yourself and the river. That's how it should be! At Mariaort, the Naab then flows into the Danube after 106 tour kilometers (see pictures). Remaining battery capacity 50% of 1125 Wh, this shows that there were hardly any gradients. Komoot played a little trick on me: A ferry connection was shown on the map as a route, but it only runs on Sundays and public holidays.... End of the day in the beer garden in Mariaort with a direct view of the mouth of the Naab. Fits!
Today I rode the Naabradweg from Regensburg to Weiden with Walter. Constant headwinds at a maximum of 10 degrees didn't make it easy. The highlight was the stop in Rothenstadt at Schinderhannes. Prices like 5 years ago with perfect quality. We then went back by train
🇬🇧 Day 5 of our first stage after Munich took us to Bad Abbach an der Donau today. 🚴🏻♂️😀. Beautiful route on the Waldnaab / Naab / Donau - drove together with Lothar and Reinhard 👍 Thanks to the two for helping to fix my first flat tire 🙂. Tomorrow we go to Munich 🍻. Have a nice evening 😎.
From Weiden today we continued down the Naab to where it flows into the Danube. Worth seeing: Kallmünz, but today it was completely overcrowded for Whitsun Sunday. Two thunderstorms, a lot of headwind, but also a lot of sun, especially in the evening, so today we spent the night in my favorite guesthouse again. With the permission of the ferryman, right on the bank of the Danube opposite Mattingen.
