From Assisi the tour first follows the course of the Tescio river and then continues on the banks of the Chiascio among olive groves and oak trees, on singletrack or dirt road. This stretch is very pleasant and has numerous natural views and rest areas. On weekends it can be busier with pedestrians, runners and cyclists.
Before Bettona, the itinerary takes you back to the paved road. At this point, tackle the short but tiring climb to the town. The climb is rewarded by the visit of this medieval village and by a fountain with fresh water, located in the main square. The descent takes you to Cannara. Here you have to leave the main road to briefly follow the banks of another river: the Topino.
The last few kilometers have the city of Assisi as a backdrop, perched on the base of Mount Subasio. The tour does not pass through the city, but if you want to make a detour, you can reach the center by bicycle from the station in less than half an hour.
