The Steigla is an extension of the Wiesenpanoramaweg (meadow panorama trail). I wouldn't do it as a Steigla anymore; it's mostly a platoon trail, but it's very easy to walk. The panorama along the Wiesenpanoramaweg is fantastic, though. There's plenty of parking at the Nordhalben outdoor pool, and the terrace was still open. The trail can be walked in either direction.
"First ascent" of the new FrankenwaldSteigla trail for Hiking Day 2025. For the nationwide Hiking Day (May 14), the Frankenwald Association has called for hikes through the new FrankenwaldSteigla trail "Through the Bärwurz Meadows." The trail mostly leads along the existing Meadow Panorama Trail, but also along new paths on the Kolonnenweg and along the Green Belt. The Franconian Forest's Bärwurz meadows are the undisputed center of distribution in Bavaria and are characterized by a rich flora and fauna in species, herbs, and insects. Their diversity and fragrance offer a very special landscape experience. However, the Bärwurz reacts very sensitively to nutrient inputs, such as the application of manure or intensive grazing. Late mowing, preferably with a blade bar mower and avoiding fertilization or extensive grazing, strengthens the Bärwurz meadows of the Franconian Forest.
A very beautiful route with a variety of butterflies and flowers and consistently beautiful views. It's really fun!
Starting point: Titschendorfer Straße 40, 96365 Nordhalben.
Today I went hiking on the Nordhalbener Höhe and was in the sun a lot, which is bearable in March. Unfortunately the forests, or what is left of them, are in a bad state and the meadows were of course still brown from winter. But in early summer it is sure to be very beautiful here when everything is green and blooming. So I'll be back 😊.
