Today we went to the Gangolfsberg in the Rhön, the mountain is mainly known for its basalt and prism walls. Above there are still remains (few) of a rampart. Afterwards we walked to the Thüringer Hütte, unfortunately there was no more seating inside, we had to use the kiosk outside and luckily got one of the few tables on the terrace. When we finished eating, there was a storm warning, so we quickly moved on and luckily chose a shortcut. When we got to the car it started to rain.
Today we hiked with the whole family from the Thüringer Hütte to the basalt prism wall. Of course, the children liked the "adventure paths" on the Gangolfsberg the most 🤠.
Mega beautiful hike. Great stop at Thüringer Hütte.
The round to the impressive basalt prism wall runs on the well-marked Rhön circular route 5 Oberelsbach. A nice and interesting tour through the natural forest reserve Gangolfsberg.
Start of 4 hiking days in the Rhön with location in Tann/Rhön. Organized by Sabine Holicki (Xing group). To get started today, a small route, which includes the basalt prism wall as a highlight. Unfortunately it doesn't come out right in my photos 😏. Definitely a great sight. And fascinating what nature produces. It's also hot in the Rhön today, so the short route from 1 p.m. today was sufficient. We hope for lower temperatures on the next 3 hiking days.

Today a leisurely tour starting at the Schweinfurter Haus to the basalt prism wall. Always beautiful! This time not via the St. Gangolf Chapel but following the nature trail further to the Thüringer Hut and back to the Schweinfurter Haus. 😊
