Great route, especially from the basalt prism wall, it goes over hill and dale. At the beginning there is a lot of information about the different types.

Trail Reviews

ANGELIKA
February 1, 2025, Oberelsbach Rhönrundweg 6

I chose the Rhön circular trail 6 in Oberelsbach. There are plenty of hiking trails here and the town itself does a lot for tourism. You can stock up on lots of brochures in the "Haus der Langen Rhön". The biosphere center "Haus der Langen Rhön" puts on an extensive event program every year with guided hikes, exhibitions and lectures. Changing special exhibitions address current topics, there is a public tour every Saturday and every second or third Tuesday of the month there is a cinema evening with fresh organic popcorn. For us, that means we won't be here for the last time. The hiking trail markings were great again, that's how we know it in the Rhön. The hiking trail was varied in terms of the trails, the views and the highlights. A long climb at the beginning, then a more moderate climb, very beautiful along the Els through the forest and a wonderful panorama of the Rhön above Oberelsbach. We really enjoyed the tour. At the beginning you need some fitness, but if you run slower you can manage it.

I saw this tour for the first time at @ANGELIKA. Great route. Saw a few new things, as I was familiar with most of the route. Sun and a pleasant temperature during the hike.

The Mühlwiesental was a disappointment. Perhaps we should have stayed on the north-eastern side of the Els; it looks more attractive on the map.

Recommended round tour, which leads from Oberelsbach along the Els to the basalt prism wall (absolutely worth seeing!!), through the block debris forests on the Gangolfsberg and to the old quarry. You walk back a bit on a wide gravel path before you come back to a beautiful Rhön hiking trail.
