Hiking

This spectacular 4.2-mile (6.7 km) walk will spoil you with fantastic coastal views thanks to its clifftop route. It starts in the tiny coastal resort of West Bay and leads you eastwards along the cliffs to Burton Bradstock’s beach and back again on a slightly different trail, back from the cliffs. Burton Bradstock is around halfway, so you can even stop for lunch if you fancy.

1) Start at the East Beach car park (not NT) and hike up to East Cliff, walking along the clifftops.

2) Descend to the River Bride along the edge of a holiday park and cross the river using the footbridge.

3) Hike south to the coast again and continue along the coast path to Hive Beach. When you reach it, take Cliff Road north then take the first left hand lane you come to, called Southover.

4) This turns into a footpath which you follow west back to the footbridge. If you’re after food, you can walk from here into Burton Bradstock. If not, hike along the footpath through the holiday park and onwards across the golf course.

5) The trail leads you back to the car park.

Immediately east of Burton Beach, the clifftop makes for a fantastic place to stroll, particularly in clear weather. The views from these large cliffs are excellent and you can see considerable distances around Lyme Bay.

Stay away from the cliff edges as they are slowly eroding.
