This route was planned by komoot.
Normally we would have been on the road since yesterday to cycle the Ems cycle path. But because the weather forecast for the week was so unstable, we decided to postpone the tour. At this point I have to mention my uncle, who would have done the tour anyway 😀 I vetoed it though 😁 But because we didn't want to do nothing at all, we decided at short notice to cycle the Nethe cycle path. Which, sorry, I had never heard of before then 🙈 I was all the more surprised. We started, as is proper, from the source in Neuenheerse. Then the ride went along the Nethe until just before Höxter, where it flows into the Weser. On the way there are a few stations where it is worth stopping for a moment and taking a break. The Weidenpalais near Rheder Castle offers a really special highlight: a living structure made of hundreds of willow branches that offer a shady spot in the summer and under which you can comfortably enjoy a drink. I really have to admit that this cycle path surprised me in a positive way. The signage is really almost perfect and there are nice places almost every few kilometers where you can sit on a bench and rest. Many large cycle paths could learn a thing or two from this cycle path. The route is also simply great. On the entire route, if you exclude the part where you cross villages or towns, you ride a maximum of 1-2km on country roads with hardly any cars. Otherwise you always ride on good surfaces, close to the Nethe. It's definitely an insider tip from me 👍🏼
A cool tour for a short day trip. A truly beautiful riverside cycle path from its source to its confluence with the Weser. A total of no more than 3-4 kilometers along country roads or secondary roads, the rest of it is just cycle paths, away from the hustle and bustle – pure nature. Plenty of rest stops, a few shelters, and countless bridges, where we crossed the Nethe, round out this cycle path. Highly recommended! https://youtu.be/uezAbKreYyY?si=WDLOiIu8VHTT6IZS
