Hiking

Dinosaurs in the mountains? You're right: On the Triassic Trail at the Steinplatte summit you can see the "terrible lizards" up close. The peaks of the Limestone Alps were on the sea floor at the time of the dinosaurs and so you can discover a particularly large number of fossils here.

On the Triassic Trail, which is suitable for strollers and is classified as an easy hike in the Pillersee Valley, you can get to know many different dinosaurs, enjoy the view from the viewing platform and the children can romp around on the adventure playground. Still not enough? Then climb up an exciting path to the summit of the Steinplatte - but here without a stroller.

To begin with, you float comfortably from Waidring up to the mountain station on the cable car - holders of the Pillersee Valley Card even travel for free. The prehistoric adventure can begin right here. Simply follow the signposted path and look at the huge dinosaur models. From the reservoir, where you can discover an aquatic dinosaur, an ascending path leads up towards the summit. The last few meters get a little rockier and you're already standing at the summit cross.

On the other side, you leave the stone slab again and walk along a wide hiking trail back to the mountain station. While the children have fun on the playground, the parents can enjoy a cup of coffee in peace in the mountain inn. Afterwards, you take the cable car back to the valley.

Triassic Park — Playground and Trail

Highlight • Rest Area

The Triassic Park is located here in summer. Interesting facts from primeval times and about dinosaurs for young and old. First inform in the Triassic Center, then explore the Steinplatte via the Triassic Trail. The view on the observation deck is a highlight. Then splash and play with the children at Triassic Beach.

In winter, the Steinplatte ski area is located in the Tyrol-Salzburg-Bavaria border triangle in conjunction with the Winklmoosalm near Reit im Winkl. It can be reached on the Austrian side with the 15-person gondola from Waidring and on the German side with the 8-person gondola from Seegatterl. The ski area includes all levels of difficulty.

Reservoir with a pterosaur

Highlight • Lake

On the shore of the reservoir lake, a pterodactyl spreads its leather wings. It is a Pteranodon - Greek for "Toothless Aviator". If you look closely at the model of the dinosaur, you can quickly find out why it got this name.

Our small hiking group has now grown to six people, including the grandchildren. As an introduction, we went on the Triassic Trail in the Triassic Park on the Steinplatte. Fun mixed with a little effort is the motto and everything in the sign of the dinosaurs. That seems to be well received, the trial was well attended, especially since it …
