It had to be snow, that was the declared goal. So spontaneously off to the Sauerland after it didn't work out yesterday. Once again we actually wanted to leave much earlier *cough*. We were a little surprised on the spot, because we hadn't expected so much snow. Snowshoes and sleds would not have been so wrong. The tour itself had a lot to offer for young and old: beautiful geotopes with information boards, a stream crossing, steep climbs and a great landscape with a beautiful view around Düdinghausen. We really liked the signage, because the path is great to discover in all directions. A spot just before Gerke's quarry is a bit tricky at the moment. But this could be easily avoided...which of course we only found out later. Of course we wandered into the dark again. Overall a great tour, basically recommended for everyone.

We. Want. Snow ❄️ ☃️ That's why we “had” to go to the Sauerland today - the winter here makes us wait too long 😉 We started in the middle of the village of Düdinghausen. In sleet (very slippery) it’s straight up to the chapel, a loop along the first geotopes >>> very interesting, very informative made ℹ️. Further along the stream, it goes up into the forest. Then a very steep - and in the weather very slippery / smooth path goes straight up. Here, kids could also take the wide D2 straight to the street. Once at the top it’s of course great and they’re well worth the effort. Quite surprisingly, it is more strenuous 🥵 😉 in the snow and the ❄️ “brakes”. So on briskly before another night hike is on the agenda. Shortly along the road it goes through a beautifully snow-covered forest 🌲 with a wonderful panorama over the hilltop. The ❄️ creaks so nicely under the feet 😊 Then the descent follows quickly downhill through a deep gully (that should be the said “gorge”). Nobody was there before us that day. Without snow it would have been very dark. Under the wet white there was deep mud and so you get going 🙈 Once you have left the forest, you come back into the area along the water and then complete the round above the church. At the car there was a late picnic to warm up 🧺

Day 2 (Tuesday) afternoon 5 °C ☁️☁️ (Medebach) "Between mussels, cephalopods and volcanoes in the tropical primeval sea" An informative trail with a beautiful view from the Kreuzberg, a chapel, a gorge and three (actually four) geological outcrops on the Sauerland-Höhenflug. The rocks around Düdinghausen come from the geological periods of the Devonian (417-358 million years ago) and the Carboniferous (358-296 million years ago). Start at the hiking car park by the chapel and in the opposite direction - chapel on the Kreuzberg with a view - historic Way of the Cross (1859) - Riepenbach and village with neo-Gothic church - Riepenbach Gorge - medieval beech forest hollow way - church quarry - Gerkes quarry - Borghagen quarry - I missed the Vitsenböhl quarry. Nice tip from a book. Circular route around Düdinghausen. As there are some. There are inclines, good shoes are recommended 😉 If you have them, you should too. Bring hiking sticks. Parking is on public. Parking at the Schützenhalle possible. From there, the short detour-500m- to the "Freihstuhl" is signposted.

Very nice hike. Also recommended for those not interested in geology. (Partly rustic) beech forest alternates with spruce forest. Initially, the tour runs mainly uphill. It's really worth it though. Especially with clear weather like today. Again and again there are wonderful views out and into the distance. Some sections of the hike run on paths on which sturdy shoes and sure-footedness are recommended.
