Langdon to Thorncombe Beacon — National Trust walks in North and West Dorset

This 6-mile (9.7 km) walk takes you to two fantastic spots on Dorset’s stunning coastline as well as the vibrant woodland of Langdon Hill. You pass through the hamlet of Seatown twice, so you can stop for a pub lunch if you like. The starting point is the National Trust’s car park at Langdon Hill.

1: Head along the trail due south from the car park, follow the edge of the hill until you reach its south western corner, where you leave the hill via a bridleway and directly ascend Golden Cap’s glorious summit.
2: From the top, hike east along the Coast Path to Seatown. Continue to follow the trail, down Sea Hill Lane and back up to the clifftops on the other side of the hamlet.
3: Continue walking east, taking in the wonderful Lyme Bay views, to reach Thorncombe Beacon.
4: From the beacon, head north until you meet a bridleway and then take a left turn to the west. You stick with this bridleway back to Seatown. It follows a slightly more inland route, although it does briefly meet the Coast Path.
5: Above Seatown, take a dead end lane to the west and follow it as it turns into a rough track to meet Pettycrate Lane. Turn left to reach the southern end of Langdon Hill again.
6: Take the trail leading north along the hill’s western flank, walking around the north end and returning to the car park where you started.
