National park - that means leaving nature to itself in the core zone. It's different in the care zone, which is particularly large in the Berchtesgaden National Park, covering around 25 percent of the area. In some areas, traditional alpine farming is practiced there. As cultivated land with a lush biodiversity today, the alpine pastures were once created by settlement from the 8th century onwards. Only if they continue to be cultivated - as is the case on the Halsalm by the Wegscheider family from Lacklehen in Ramsau - will these particularly species-rich meadows be preserved. Information boards with additional QR codes on further topics provide information on the circular route about why farmers are allowed to farm livestock in the strictly protected national park and what, for example, is behind the idea of separating forest and pasture.
Griaß Di, departing today to the Halsalm⛰vom Hintersee 😅and the weather gods are kind to us so that the sweat and pulse runs fast. You would have liked to jump straight into the clear Hintersee 💦 Weather ☀️28 degrees Tour 8/10
Tour shortened due to the weather forecast. Start from the Hirschbichlstrasse car park. Past the national park information, take the Böslsteig to the right to Halsalm. Reached the bearded vulture information point on the way up. Wiggerl and Vinzenz (the bearded vultures released into the wild) could be seen through the spotting scope. Continue to Halsalm. Rest with fresh buttermilk. From there, descend towards Hintersee and back to the car park.
The hike to the Halsalm – a regular part of our vacation itinerary. Starting in beautiful weather at the "Hirschbichelstraße" parking lot (fee required), we first walked quite leisurely along the road, then gradually – but still leisurely – up a gravel path. The climb became ever higher and steeper, yet still comfortable, until we reached an information point about bearded vultures. Here, the students/interns told us all sorts of interesting facts about the reintroduction of bearded vultures. We reached the alpine pasture a short time later. A snack is a must here. The path down into the valley to Hintersee is quite steep. You have to watch your step. A thunderstorm was also brewing, which didn't exactly make the descent any easier. Very doable with children (our boys are 12 and 10). Allow plenty of time so they can discover all the many interesting things along the way.
Fantastically beautiful round in an impressive mountain backdrop and with a rustic alpine hut 👍
From car park 2, the path is quite monotonous, a gravel path...it's worth stopping and looking back. The mountains are breathtaking... As soon as you're out of the forest, you've almost reached the alpine pasture. Very friendly, good prices and a great view of the Hintersee. The second part of the hike through the path/forest is more challenging. It's narrow in places, sometimes there are stones, sometimes there are roots. It's a bit tough on your knees but OK, hiking poles are helpful. If you go straight up from the Hintersee, i.e. start at the alpenexperience, you'll have the strenuous part ahead of you at the beginning.
After rain in the morning, we completed the traditional route this afternoon.
