One of the rare rounds to the west from Badia. From Badia you start the day with the ascent of the Passo Gardena. My personal favourite, because of the impressive rocks that surround you, and yes, the bizarre view at the top. From the top it is a long descent through the Gardena valley towards Klausen. In between you will pass through all kinds of charming villages (lunch tip!). Then turn right and you will hit the Passo delle Erbe. pats! This is the most traffic-free side of the climb. But a very steep one. And if you think it can't get any steeper, then the descent towards San Martin de Tor begins. Check your brake pads prior to this ride, because yes, this descent is steep. The last part back to Badia is a nice way to recover from an intense ride through the Dolomites.
An interesting tour with somewhat bumpy conditions... The exit between Würzjoch and Eisacktal was officially closed because of a procession with hundreds of believers, but with a lot of patience they were able to pass at walking pace and did not express any displeasure. And afterwards there felt like there were a lot of construction sites and traffic lights up the Val Gardena, which is sometimes quite steep, with car drivers probably annoyed because of this. Both were a real nuisance on a "normal" working day. But from Selva the traffic relaxed again. The scenery was an absolutely beautiful tour! The village of Klausen was also on the plus side, ultimately also because of the delicious, in our case dark, Gasslbräu*. Highly recommended. Conclusion: Impressive tour, but best in the UZS, i.e. down the Val Gardena. *) From the business owner: "Cozy inn since 2005 in the middle of Klausen right next to the Säbener Aufgang. In the middle of the guest room is the brewery with beautiful copper kettles in which around 1000hl are brewed per year. In 2015 we opened another room, the Gschwendtstube, and in 2019 we enlarged our fermentation and storage room by digging a cellar. At the same time we treated ourselves to a new large kitchen and since 2020 we have also been creating fine pizzas in addition to traditional and Mediterranean cuisine. In the Gasslbräu there are ten different home-brewed beers throughout the year - including the seasonal beers. We serve all of this both in the guest rooms and in the beautiful alleys in front of the Gasslbräu. The Andergassen family and the Gassl team look forward to your visit."
