Anyone hiking in Saarland can't miss this tour: The Saarschleife (Saar Loop) hiking trail takes you to one of the region's most famous viewpoints – the Cloef. From Mettlach, you hike over the ridge surrounded by the Saar River to the romantically situated Montclair Castle. Here, you can not only enjoy the view but also have a light refreshment in the castle bistro.

Then, you descend to the banks of the Saar. To cross to the other side, you take the last ferry still operating on the Saar – a real experience! Check the ferry times in advance at www.saarschleifenland.de, as it is closed on Mondays (except public holidays). After the crossing, you climb through the idyllic Steinbach Valley up to the famous Cloef viewpoint.

Once you reach the top, it's worth taking a break at the nearby Buchnas Landhotel – you can also stay overnight here or start the tour directly (hotel-saarschleife.de). Afterwards, you will return to Mettlach via scenic paths, where your circular hike ends.
