A fjord-like landscape, crystal-clear, turquoise water and romantic bays: On the shore hike along the Weissensee, you will hardly be able to get enough of the views. The lake gets its name from its white gravel shore and lakebed. The calcareous rock also gives the lake its Caribbean-like water color. The Weissensee is also the only lake in Carinthia without a bypass road and offers a perfect Slow Trail scenario – in absolute peace and seclusion.

The shore path leads past secluded bays and resting places, accompanied by the backdrop of the Gailtal Alps with views of the proud Lienz Dolomites. You can walk the path either from Neusach (Ronacherfels) – as the path is described here – to the eastern shore or in the opposite direction and combine it with the environmentally friendly scheduled boat "MS Alpenperle".

After our hut-hopping hike in the Virgental Valley, we finished our day at the beautiful Weissensee. A very beautiful spot if you're there outside of peak season. The overnight stay at the Glautschhof organic farm was 👍

Lake Weissensee is a true gem! We're drawn here again and again; it's simply impossible to do without countless photo stops. Today's highlights: swimming, the water temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius, a dream, and then we even got to observe a family of great crested grebes, including feeding their two young birds! 🤩
