Hiking

The starting point of the circular hike is the Mizun reservoir, which is located directly on the beautiful Zillertal High Road. From there the path leads you on a slightly uphill forest path to the Mizunalm at 1,860 meters and past it over beautiful, wide alpine pastures in the direction of the Kristallhütte. At 2,147 meters you will be spoiled with culinary delicacies and a fantastic sun terrace.

From the Kristallhütte, follow the "Stoamandlweg" trail to the Wedelhütte. On the way there is a summit victory: It goes steeply up to the Wimbachkopf at 2,442 meters above sea level. Then you descend to the Wedelhütte (2,350 meters), which promises an enjoyable break with traditional delicacies.

From the Wedelhütte, the path leads past a reservoir and again past the Mizunalm to the Mizun reservoir.

Kristall Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Kristallhütte is located in the Hochzillertal ski area at 2,147 meters.
In summer it is a popular destination for cyclists. The modern hut with a rustic ambience and a large panoramic terrace is a great mountain destination.
The sundowner evening menu (with advance notice) or the sunrise breakfast (Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun - without registration) are pretty cool.

Summer opening times: Thursday from 9 a.m. to midnight
Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight
Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stoamandlweg

Highlight • Trail

Panoramic - this word best describes the route. As a link between the Kristallhütte and Wedelhütte, it is lined with numerous “Stoamandln” that give the path its name. These are stacked stones, i.e. stone towers that hikers leave behind. Maybe your Stoamandl will be there soon too?

Wimbachkopf Summit

Highlight • Summit

Beautiful summit with a great view of the surrounding mountains. The ascent is not too difficult. The summit cross is beautifully worked and compensates for the effort of the ascent!

Beautiful reservoir that invites you to linger. We still had a little bit of snow though.

Mizun Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

This reservoir marks the start and end of the tour and gives you a great view of the front Zillertal. The Mizun reservoir is not only a remarkable vantage point, it also stores water for power plants and helps to make snow on the slopes in winter.

June 4, 2022, Zillertal: Runde vom Speichersee Mizun auf den Wimbachkopf

Pentecost 2022: Hard to imagine, but in the Zillertal 🏔️ you can also hike 🥾 without being overrun by crowds! A wonderful tour with a great view (the weather was nice 😁)... Unfortunately we didn't see marmots, but we heard them clearly 😂.

Translated by Google

The 500th hike was supposed to be a special one. And it was. From the Mizun reservoir at 1800m, it was a very steep climb over the Mizun Alm up to the Wimbachkopf at 2442m. I cannot describe the breathtaking view of the mountain panorama in words. So I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Translated by Google

Apart from all the ski facilities, the ascent of the Wimbachkopf is a well-rounded affair and not too strenuous either. But the descent is tough, whoops!

Translated by Google

For the ascent and descent to the Wimbachkopf you should be sure-footed and not afraid of heights. The path is quite narrow and rocky. It is therefore best to wear high hiking boots. Tip: A visit to Murmelland is particularly worthwhile with children. There is lots of play equipment that you can use for free and some animals that you can watch. Note: The journey to the starting point takes you along the Zillertaler Höhenstraße. There is an extra toll here (€10 for cars).
