Weidenberger Erdblicke (Weidenberg)

The "Weidenberger Erdblicke" are a really beautiful and informative circular hiking trail marked "Geopfad Kulm". The hike leads out of Weidenberg over the Höhenweg am Kulm and over the valley of the warm Steinach back to Weidenberg. A lot of panorama!! Ochsenkopf and Schneeberg, Rauher Kulm, Steinwald, everything is included. The geologically informative boards along the way gave us a lot of views: Cellar view, wide view, sea view, view change, volcano view, terrace view, eye-catcher. We chose this "forestless" path well today, the storms have killed a lot and it is probably not without danger in the forest at the moment.

This tour was published by GEOPARK Bayern-Böhmen. Very well signposted, with numerous information boards on the Weidenberger geological history. Again and again beautiful rest areas with wonderful views and far-reaching views. A nice round to discover worthwhile corners of Weidenberg.

The highlight of the day was the church service, with musical accompaniment by a Ukrainian bandura player and singer, at St. Michael's Parish Church in Weidenberg, where I was fortunate enough to attend unexpectedly. A wonderful end to the Christmas holidays.

The Kulm tour leads over the shell limestone ridge of the Kulm with wonderful views, especially of the western Fichtelgebirge and the Steinachtal and starts at the station premises. Unfortunately, the photos are a bit mixed up - the Easter fountains belong at the beginning.

The tour is an easy circular hike on agricultural paths and a wildly romantic climb. In the local area it runs on paved paths. It offers wonderful views. The hike The "Weidenberger Erdblicke" (Kulmrunde) is a geological themed trail of the GEOPARK Bayern-Böhmen with attractive display boards at 15 locations and wide landscape views. The starting point is at the Weidenberg train station with a meter-sized block of "Weidenberger Karnelian". The hike first leads to the Obermarkt with its listed sandstone ensemble of houses and the special feature of the window aprons. Information boards along the Kulm-Höhenweg explain the geological origins of the area around Weidenberg and also explain the landscape, which can be seen from the Höhenweg in wide views. After a short stretch along the main European watershed, at Langengefäll (there is an information board there on the history of the watershed) you follow the Guggiweg path down into the valley of the Warmen Steinach and past the Scherzenmühle back to the train station.
