Today's start was at the Eisgrat valley station and we went up to the Fernau middle station (2300 m). The first steps up to the Dresdener Hütte, which was hardly visible. The goal was the Mutterberger See at 2485 m, where we took a break. Up and down it went past plenty of waterfalls, rushing streams, past herds of sheep down to the valley station. After the tour, something hearty had to be eaten: https://www.hotel-brunnenhof.at/ Johnny's restaurant
From the Eisgrat valley station (1695m) we took the gondola up to the Fernau middle station at 2300m. At the Dresdner Hütte it was light fog and the air was getting thinner and thinner Uphill, downhill and again uphill and down in the direction of Mutterbergsee at 2485m. After enjoying the all-round view with some refreshments, we made our way back to the Eisgrat valley station. A very strenuous beautiful tour is behind us today, which we will certainly feel again tomorrow in the form of sore muscles. 🦋🏔🚶♀️⛰️🚡
The climb from the valley station follows a forest road heavily used by construction vehicles and is anything but scenic. And then there's another section of the trail between the Mutterbergsee and the Dresdner Hütte, which is also quite ugly. But the Mutterbergsee is beautiful, and the hike is worth it for that reason alone.
Departure from the middle station (middle station) of the Stubaier Gletscher Bahn towards the Mutterberger See (2h). Long descent to the valley station of the cable car. On the way back you cross several streams and the path is very slippery and muddy, probably also due to the rains of recent days. The lake is very beautiful and so is the panorama.
We had a wonderful day with great hiking weather. We always go uphill more slowly than indicated. But here it was enormous. Instead of 2 hours, it took us over 3 hours to go up and the same amount of time to go down. The hosts confirmed that the information is probably very ambitious.
I can say today that it was my most demanding hike and Ida Wandermaus was also in my luggage. We used the luxury of the Eisgratbahn and drove up to the Dresdner Hütte, from there we went to the Esgensee, at an altitude of 2500 m. We forgo the ascent to the Esegrat, which turned out to be positive in view of the weather conditions. It continued steeply downhill then uphill again to the Mutterbergsee. The former glacial lake is idyllically situated in the landscape. When there is no wind, the Alps are reflected in the. water surface. Then the descent started and it turned out to be very demanding. Again and again over stones, rubble and waterfalls, but they had no bridges and so you could only balance over stones again and again. Photo 18/19) On the last meters of altitude we were surprised by a heavy downpour. Super great performance by Ida Wandermaus, I'm proud of you. 👍
Today we took the bus to the Stubai Glacier stop. From here, the direct ascent begins via a typical trail to Mutterberg Lake. Shortly before the mountain lake, you cross a magnificent raised moor landscape before finally arriving at the mountain lake. It sits at a breathtaking elevation of 2,340 m, overlooking the Stubai Glacier. A longer break is simply a must. We didn't want to swim 🥶 but the water is just right for cooling our feet 😊 We finally continued along the Stubai High Trail to the Dresdner Hut. We didn't want to do much descending today. So, thanks to our guest card, we took the Eisgratbahn cable car back down to the valley. It was another great day, and we were completely alone on the ascent 😉
