The village of Oberkirchen, part of Schmallenberg in the Sauerland, is located on a beautiful loop of the Lenne. Oberkirchen is framed by Hardt (659m), Hirschberg (650m) and Lingelscheid (583m). In the valley itself, the two small brooks Waldsiepen and Lüttmecke flow into the Lenne.

Today's tour started in Schmallenberg-Oberkirchen near the Gasthof Schütte. The Rundeg is very well signposted with the golden "G" and offers a very varied and beautiful hiking route, especially on the first 7km. You primarily walk on narrow paths over the mountains of the Sauerland with wonderful views and impressions. We particularly liked the NSG Sommerseite with blueberries as far as the eye can see and beautiful flowers blooming along the paths. Even though the paths are regularly maintained and kept clear, you occasionally wander through knee-high grass. After around 8km and crossing the B236 you reach the typical Sauerland forests with spruces, dead wood or fallow land. In the last section you reach the Vorwald estate, where a stop (the only one on the way) is definitely worth it. On the last section back to Oberkirchen you follow more paths and come to a beautiful natural pond before you see the first half-timbered houses again.
Sufficiently well-marked circular route, with several entry points. Hiking car park "Ennest", Hotel Gut Vorwald.
This Golddorf route has been on my wish list for a while. Today it worked out. I added a small loop to take in the beautiful panoramic view. You are often on beautiful paths. Some of the paths are already overgrown with gorse or hanging branches. Overall, the tour is very nicely laid out. For me, it is one of the most beautiful Golddorf routes. Easy to hike, but very short sections require a certain amount of surefootedness. The gradients are moderate overall. But it always depends on your personal fitness. 😃
A perfect opening to our "All German Hiking Weekend." A very beautiful route in ideal conditions, including the atmosphere 😉👍🍀. The diverse landscape with its abundant views and distant vistas makes the Sauerland a particularly attractive hiking area. Even though the effects of various storms (Kyrill and its followers😏) had taken their toll on some of the forests, and the bark beetle had added another layer (mealtime 🥴), the "monoculture" landscape has been positively transformed by new, different "tree greenery." Various sections/slopes with remnants of deadwood, mixed with new growth, create interesting contrasts. Charming (half-timbered) houses and the occasional lovely place to stop for a bite to eat also contribute to the region's appeal. Conclusion: 👍...it's worth it

This was our second Golddorf tour in the Land of a Thousand Mountains! Our enthusiasm for the Sauerland region has been growing with every hike since the Upland-Steig last year. Today's route also makes every hiker's heart beat faster and sends us home happy. The first part of today's route led us over wide forest paths through a shady forest bath, before the landscape and panorama opened up on the second section via more and more single trails. A bright blue sky with lots of sun at 18 degrees and a delicious stop were the icing on the cake of our perfect day. We wish you an equally beautiful and happy weekend 🫶. Stay healthy 🖖! https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/4280616/-die-goldenen-doerfer-im-land-der-tausend-berge-golddoerfer-routen-im-sauerland
We had actually planned to do the Sorper Panorama Trail today. But we lost the desire to do so in view of the many loud motorbikes thundering through the narrow valley in the beautiful weather. So we drove to Oberkirchen and set off on the Golddorf route there. The first third in particular was steeply uphill, but we were rewarded with wonderful views. The middle third also offered beautiful views, but mostly led through Christmas tree plantations, which was not so interesting. We stopped for lunch at Döpps Feldscheune (unmanaged), where you could sit outside at rustic tables. A wonderful stop was possible in the afternoon at Gut Vorwald in the shady beer garden. Unfortunately they are not always open, but today it worked out. The last part of the trail led over narrow paths through light green beech forest, beautiful! A strenuous but highly recommended tour, which is also worth the trip to Oberkirchen.
