Gennebrecker Rundwanderweg (Sprockhövel)

Gennebreck is one of the six districts of Sprockhövel in the Ennepe-Ruhr Valley. Gennebreck is actually not a real place, but goes back to the municipality of Gennebreck, which was incorporated in 1970. The community of Gennebreck consisted of the places Horath, Herzkamp and Schee and this is exactly where the Gennebrecker circular hiking trail runs in the Herzkämper Mulde hiking area.

Hard coal has been mined in Gennebreck since the Middle Ages. The southernmost mine of the Ruhr mining industry, the Stöckerdreckbank colliery, was located in Gennebreck. Ribbon weaving was very common in the community of Gennebreck. The Gennebrecker circular hiking trail, signposted with GB, starts in Elberfelder Straße. From here we keep clockwise and walk past the Großer Siepen farm complex, which essentially dates from the early 16th century and is now located directly on the Juliana golf course.

It goes on the Gennebrecker circular hiking trail via the localities of Gennebrecker Mühle and St. Moritz to the Scherpenberg (283m). We are here in the Hilgenpütt forest area, which forms the watershed between the Ruhr and Wupper.

You hike through the Hilgenpütt to the settlement of Ochsenkamp, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Herzkamp. Via Mettberg you come to the Deilbachtal. On the west flank you pass the Hackenberg (260m). The Deilbach is an almost twenty-one kilometer long left-hand tributary of the Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Deilbach rises north of the Wuppertal district of Barmen and flows into the Ruhr at Essen-Kupferdreh.

On the other side of the Hackenberg, the Gennebrecker circular hiking trail crosses Elfringhauser Straße and leads via Sundern to the Egen quarry and finally back to Herzkamp.
