The cable car takes us comfortably from Heiligenblut to over 2,600 meters above sea level. The Schareck summit can be reached quickly from here. The view is unique, with countless three-thousanders all around us. A steep descent to the Mauskarscharte, secured with steel cables, then follows, after which the path continues quite effortlessly. Below the Roßköpfl you can look across to the Salzburger Land. The ascent and especially the descent from the Roßköpfl are borderline, only later do we see that there is an easier way to avoid this. The descent that follows is long... finally we reach a road that takes us back to the mountain station. It's dragging, it's exhausting and I'm exhausted - only the prospect of a cyclist keeps me going 🤪
Oops, hit stop too late again. Approx. 1.2 km distance and 450 vertical meters must be deducted from the information, the cable car took over 😉
After 1.5 weeks, the weather was finally nice enough to start this tour. ☀️ According to the tourist information, it's an easy family trail with little incline. Aahhaa. Different countries, different standards. 😜 The trail consisted mostly of singletrack, partly along the edge of the mountain. It was fun to hike the trail. As long as the dog was behind me and couldn't pull me. 🤭 The view was breathtaking. It never really comes across in pictures. So, go and hike the geotrail yourself. 🤓
From Heiligenblut am Großglockner you can take the cable car up to the Schareck at 2,600 mtr. Immediately behind the gondola we walk up to the Schareck summit cross with a sensational view of many over three thousand meter peaks and from there we start the Geotrail, which in a large loop, first steep and impassable (sometimes with a rope to hold on) downhill to Mauskarscharte, then past different types of rock, crevices, caves and rock faces on to the Roßöpfel. There is a bit of climbing and, above all, sure-footedness required. And always the fantastic panoramic view of the Hohe Tauern and the Glocknerstrasse. Small path downhill and then of course the cart path felt endlessly uphill to the Schareck mountain station. A cool cyclist quickly made us forget the exertion of the "easy" hike.
