Hochalm loop

The Hochalm is an open grazing area on the wooded eastern slope of the Mondseeberg. Once upon a time, the Almsee Monastery stood up here, but today no animals are kept there and the buildings have already been cleared away. Nevertheless, a hike to the beautiful mountain meadow is worthwhile, because the view of the surrounding mountains is great. The tour runs on good hiking trails and comfortable gravel roads. There are no alpine huts along the walk, so you should pack enough water and food.

Your hike to the Hochalm begins in the center of the city of Mondsee. The path leads you past the church and out of the city. On the western slope of the Mondseeberg you wander across wide meadows and past individual farms. The path rises evenly. Soon he will lead you into a dense mountain forest. In the middle of the forest, the saddle between Mondseeberg and Kulmspitze reach. This place is called Radstatt and right next to the path is the chapel of the same name. The trail leads a little downhill and you will meet a wide gravel road. Follow this to the left until you reach a fork in the road. You walk to the right and come directly to the Hochalm. With a fantastic view you can take a break here. Then you follow the way back to the fork. This time you turn right here and walk down through the forest to Mondsee.
