Maasholm: fishing village with a view - hiking on the Baltic Sea fjord Schlei

A beautiful loop along the Schimmelünde nature reserve with a view of the Schimmel estuary and Port Olpenitz. We were there shortly after the severe storm surge 🌊 on October 20th, 2023 🍁🍂 and were able to get an idea of the numerous damage to the dike and the many sunken yachts 🛥️ in the harbor of Maasholm.

We left the car in Maasholm-Bad. Had read before that they didn't like to see so many of them in Maasholm, so started the loop a little earlier. First Komoran sightings right after the start at Wormshöfter Noor. He was even successful... The round continued mostly around the village, always along the water. Visited the St. Peter's Church and the harbor and (when a street went through the town) admired beautiful thatched roof houses. From the port it went through beautiful and varied nature past the pumping station, on the other side of the 10th degree of longitude to the seabird protection station. Now that the open sea was reached, the wind blew a little bit more, but that wasn't a problem at all on such a sunny day. Then, with minor interruptions, to Gutshof Oehe. There the café lured us and tempted us to take a little rest. The service was good, friendly and fast. What remained was the way back to Maasholm-Bad. Unfortunately, the asphalt road could not be avoided completely, but only half of the way, but this could in no way give a negative aftertaste to an overall very nice day ... Conclusion: you can and should definitely repeat it, because it is a really nice spot there 👍

Start Exthöft car park. There are several opportunities to stop off at the end of the round in Maasholm.

The day started with storm and rain ... and ended like that ... 😁 Rain has no chance against the wind! 🤣 So today we were able to walk a very nice loop to the Schleim estuary nature reserve from Maasholm - largely dry and with sun! It remained windy, but it was beautiful out there - endless space and a unique landscape! 👍 Note the altitude difference! 😉

...a sweet fishing village with enchanting maritime charm 💙... In glorious sunshine 💛, wonderful 🩵 skies, and warm temperatures 🧡, we circle the idyllic Maasholm and the adjacent nature reserve 💚... Infected by the slow pace of this pretty place, we enjoy the calm that immediately permeates us from the moment we step out of the parking lot, rejoicing in the wonderful time we spend together, the great weather, and the stunning views that the Schlei, the nature reserve, and the surrounding area offer us 🥰... In addition to wonderful and enriching conversations, there are also beautiful moments in which we can be silent and enjoy ourselves 😊... Our break in the dunes with little treats and an enchanting deja vu on our last weekend in Denmark was an absolute dream 😍... After completing our walk, we settled down in a sunny spot with a delicious piece of cake and hot chocolate in a cute café 🍰... Thank you so much, my dear Tine, for this wonderful day and this wonderful holiday extension with you ❤️...
