Was a nice tour. Unfortunately there was a festival on the Norddeutschland Halde. The upper heap was cordoned off, so we had no view of the surrounding towns and villages.
The 49-kilometre circuit connects three heaps in the very west of the radrevier.ruhr: Rheinprussia, Northern Germany and Pattberg. After the Second World War, mining spread west across the Rhine and to ever greater depths. That is why the most extensive overburden heaps in the Ruhr area can also be found here. Mining lasted until the 1960s. The Rheinpreußen heap carries a lamp – that's what the miner's lamp was called. It offers a view of the Rhine, the heavy industry in its vicinity and vast forests and bodies of water that were once gravel pits. Passing a former manor, the route leads to the Norddeutschland heap in Neukirchen-Vluyn. On the summit plateau, it carries a hall house framework made of steel girders. The Halde Pattberg is adorned with a simple cross. The best view is during the ascent. The summit plateau is overgrown. The path leads through an open landscape of fields and fields through the old farming communities of Kohlenhuck and Rheinkamp and into the Budberger lake landscape in Rheinberg. Through the Baerler Busch it goes back to the starting point. The average speed in motion was just under 19 km/h.
I've been following Biking Tom's blog for a long time. Now it was time. With plus 1 degree and light snowfall, I tackled the Haldencrossing tour with a club colleague from the CCD Düsseldorf. The paths are almost car-free and easy to drive on. The gravel sections are also great. What you should pay attention to is that the paths are also used a lot by dog owners. Now on Sunday, despite the cold, some dog owners on the road. That could be even more on a sunny day. It's just a matter of being considerate. Here at the point thanks to all dog owners who took care that nothing happened.
Varied route starting in Duisburg Beeck # 3 slag heaps, many bodies of water, the Rhine and forests # Have fun!
