The local railway cycle path is the perfect excursion for large and small railway fans! The short tour begins in Gerstetten, in the midst of a prehistoric landscape. Of course, the best way to get there is with the local train itself, some of which are on the way with historic cars. It is possible to take bicycles with you!
The reef museum is located in the Gerstetten station building, where you can experience the 150 million year old history of the area up close. Then you accompany the puffing steam steeds on your bike through the idyllic landscape. On the way, neat, small station buildings await you.
After crossing the European watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea, you dash down to Amstetten. The tour ends here. But real railway fans know that there is still a lot to explore here: A great bike path leads north along the Geislinger Steige, one of the steepest main railways in Europe. To the southwest you can follow the local train to Oppingen and drive to Merklingen, where the new high-speed line between Ulm and Stuttgart will be built. Or you can continue your tour on the Lonetal cycle path to the World Heritage caves in the lower section of the valley near Stetten ob Lontal.
