The Titisee is one of the most popular places in the Black Forest. Especially in summer, the lake, which is beautifully embedded in the Black Forest, attracts numerous visitors. The main attraction is of course the lake itself. The cozy promenade invites you to linger, the clear lake water for refreshment and the lakeside paths for a short tour. This short but quite sporty tour takes you on the north shore of Lake Titisee through the idyllic Seebach Valley and into the Black Forest. Here the streams of tourists get lost and you can enjoy the numerous beautiful views over the lake almost to yourself.

You start at the Titisee train station, drive through the small town and reach the lakeside at the spa gardens. On the Bruderhalde you drive along the north bank and can already catch a few wonderful views over the lake here and there. It continues through the Seebachtal, where a few smaller climbs await you. However, it only becomes significantly more mountainous shortly afterwards, along the Sägenbach. If you want to make a detour beforehand, a trip to the Feldsee at the end of the Seebach Valley is worthwhile. The lake lies at the foot of the Feldberg and is particularly impressive because of its almost circular shape.

After you have mastered the ascent, an enjoyable descent to Hinterzarten awaits you. The small winter and summer sports location also forms the apex of the Höllentalbahn, which holds the record as the steepest main railway in Germany with a maximum gradient of around 5.7 percent. This makes Hinterzarten the highest station on this impressive train route. From Hinterzarten you can finally get back to Titisee quite quickly, where you make a short detour to the lake promenade. Here you can comfortably eat an ice cream after the tour or - if you want something even more refreshing - take a dip in the lake.

Miniature Black Forest Watermills

Highlight • Structure

Much smaller than the originals, but crafted at least as laboriously and still in operation today - these miniature models of classic Black Forest mills show you the various uses of the local water-powered mills in a playful way. These were used either for grinding grain or for sawing wood. Sometimes hammer forges were also driven by water power. Look closely, then you can discover the individual machineries in the models, how they move, knock and turn.

Titisee

Highlight • Lake

The Titisee is an absolute must on your Black Forest tour. The 20 meter deep lake was formed in the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. The basin dug out by the former Feldberg Glacier and the end moraine form Lake Titisee today.

There are many old legends about the lake. One says that at the bottom of the lake lies an ancient sunken city. The residents of the city were very rich and lost faith in God and squandered bread. They hollowed out loaves of bread and used the crust as shoes. The punishment for this was inevitable: the gates of heaven opened and a deluge poured out over the old city and buried the city under the masses of water. The old-timers still say that if you go out on the lake on a calm Sunday morning, you can see the spire of the old monastery and hear its bells ringing.
