On the Castle Rock Trail, you'll discover the region's diversity. Magnificent views of Albstadt unfold before you, perched right on the edge of the Swabian Alb escarpment. Your hike through the Zollernalb region takes you through charming juniper heaths and flowering meadows, as well as beech forests and rocky terrain along the escarpment. What more could you ask for for an unforgettable day of hiking?
The trail begins at the parking lot by the Waldheim above Albstadt-Ebingen. The first section climbs a few meters before descending to the juniper heath. Here, you can soak in the gently rolling landscape and take a moment to pause. The trail continues with pleasant ups and downs. Along the way, you'll encounter fantastic viewpoints such as the Mühlenfels (Mill Rock) and the Galgenfels (Gallows Rock). Children will enjoy the large playground at Rossberg and the horses, donkeys, and geese in the Fohlenweide (Foal Pasture) – which is also a lovely spot to stop for refreshments.
The trail starts at the parking lot by the Waldheim above Albstadt-Ebingen. You're about to reach one of the highlights of the tour: the Schleicherhütte. Here you'll experience a breezy gallery atmosphere and magnificent views. The hut sits majestically atop the Eschlefels at 902 meters above the valley. With this panorama, it's well worth unpacking your lunch and refueling. The trail continues to the Schlossfelsenturm (Castle Rock Tower), from whose viewing platform you can see the snow-capped main ridge of the Swiss Alps on a clear day. From here, it's not far back to the starting point, where a cozy beer garden awaits you to round off your hike.
