A good eight kilometers full of species-rich meadow orchards, steep vineyards and magical forests - that's what makes the Schönbuchspitz tour happy. A wonderful opportunity to get to know the whole diversity of the Schönbuch between the Ammerbuch districts of Breitenholz and Entringen in peace and quiet.

We were back in Tübingen over the weekend. We chose the nearby premium hiking trail "Schönbuchspitzrunde" in Ammerbuch-Breitenholz for today. https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/baden-wuerttemberg/schoenbuchspitzrunde/ The round is small but nice and very varied! It goes along meadow orchards and vineyards, a section leads through the forest and there are always wonderful views. The proportion of paths is not too high, mostly wide, well-paved paths. But the constantly changing sections of the route make up for it. Overall we liked it!
Today, on Father's Day, we quickly ran a small but fine lap not far from home in the afternoon. The Schönbuchspitz round is one of the premium hiking trails in the Fruchttrauf and offers beautiful views over to the Wurmlinger chapel and the Swabian Jura. It is a good idea to extend the tour over to Hohenentringen Castle, which is a good 1.5 km to walk from the junction. It's worth it because of the good food and the beer garden is great too. But the recommended Hotel Ochsen is also a few meters away from the starting point of the tour at the Friedhof Breitenholz...... also good 😋 PS The running back and forth at the end was due to the good entertainment (branch spoiled 🤨)
Today I combined the way to Tübingen with this tour. Past vineyards, always a great view of Ammerbuch, fragrant meadows with fresh hay, fruit trees... simply beautiful.
"In the midst of species-rich meadow orchards, steep vineyards and shady forests, the eight-kilometer circular route on the western slope of the Schönbuch offers varied impressions and unique views. The tour takes you up to the Breitenholz vineyards on mostly natural paths and paths." Source: https://www.naturpark-schoenbuch.de/discoveren/freizeitaktivitaeten/premiumwanderwege/schoenbuchspitzrunde/ Experience score: 70 points; 8km route; 20% paths/narrow paths. Source: https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/baden-wuerttemberg/schoenbuchspitzrunde/ Beautiful hiking trail with many views. The path portion is rather manageable. The detour to the Müneck castle ruins is worthwhile, above all because of the view. Apart from the neck moat and a few steps or stones, not much of the castle has survived, you need imagination here. The path is beautiful in spring/early summer (cherry blossom, cherry harvest time) or in autumn (vineyards). This year, however, many cherries have dried up, and there is clearly a lack of water. So I had to look for suitable trees for the cherry photos. An area near the former Müneck Castle has been cordoned off because of the Haarstrangeule (see https://www.lubw.baden-wuerttemberg.de/-/haarstrangeule-gortyna-borelli-pierret-1837). This moth feeds on the medicinal hair strand, which only occurs in a few places there, including here. I had to search a bit to find the medicinal hair strand (see photo).
The Schönbuchspitzrunde leads through the nature reserve “Schönbuch-Westhang / Ammerbuch” between the Ammerbuch districts of Breitenholz and Entringen. Orchards, vineyards, viewpoints at Sägmehlhütte, Gigeleshalde and many other panoramic views. Very good, well-kept hiking trails, family-friendly hiking tour. Highly recommended. Information at www.fruechtetrauf.de
On this 8-kilometer circular route between the Ammerbuch district of Breitenholz (Friesenstraße car park, Breitenholz), the first thing you will do is over orchards up to the Breitenholz vineyards. Along the eaves we have wonderful views down to Entringen into the Ammerbuchtal. The paths are mostly natural and very, very muddy after (like today) rains. It also goes through shady, narrow forest paths that illustrate the charm and character of the Schönbuch. Made a short detour to the Müneck castle ruins, of which unfortunately nothing can be seen. This trail runs parallel to the (lower) main path, which is why you automatically return to the official path. In the end we went back along some vineyards on paths to the Breitenholz parking lot.
Amidst species-rich orchards, steep vineyards and shady forests, the eight-kilometer-long circular trail on the western slope of the Schönbuch offers varied impressions and unique views.
