Hiking

A nature reserve, diverse natural beauties and wonderful views await you on the premium walking trail "Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle". The highlight: the 470 meter high Spitzberg. Over a good six kilometers you will experience some of the things that make the Swabian Alb so special. But first things first.

It starts at the car park of the Hirschauer cemetery. By public transport, take bus line 18 from Tübingen to the "Hirschau" stop. From there you can reach the starting point of the premium walking trail via an access road (750 m). This is marked with the green apple. Via the "Holzacker" playground and the "Ammersteige" lookout point you continue to climb towards Spitzberg. You will also immerse yourself in the unique "Hirschauer Berg" nature reserve and can find out more about its protection purpose on the information boards.

Finally, the long mountain ridge of the Spitzberg between Tübingen and Wurmlingen welcomes you. It is known for its beautiful paths and views. There are wonderful views along the entire route: you can see the wide Neckar valley all the way to Hohenzollern Castle and, in between, the free-standing cone of Kapellenberg with the Wurmlinger Chapel. The tour finally turns around at the "Sattel" rest area and you hike through the Hirschau orchards and vineyards with their steep, terraced dry stone walls back to the starting point.

Dry Stone Walls and Vineyards on Kapellenberg

Highlight • Natural Monument

Here you walk through a wonderful wine-growing area that is interspersed with old dry stone walls. This is the name given to walls that were built without mortar. In wine-growing areas, such walls have proven to be particularly useful because they increase the usable area on steep slopes by building terraces. They also equalize the air temperature, store heat and radiate it into the night - this reduces the night-time cooling of the vineyards.

By the way, a well-built dry stone wall can be 100 years and older! So take a closer look, maybe there is a very old copy here too! 😉

April 14, 2024, Früchtetrauf | Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle

Beautiful premium walking trail with excellent views. Super beautiful at this time of year with all the blossoming trees. Clearly recommended! 👍

Hello, after we drove home yesterday via Tübingen due to a traffic jam on the A81, we passed the Wurmlinger Chapel and I thought I could go there again. The Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle actually only goes past the chapel, but it's only a stone's throw away and so the detour was doable. All the paths were great, especially through the forest on the Spitzberg and then the great views. From the top of the chapel you could also see the Hohenzollern, although it was already very hazy on the horizon. There were a few others at the chapel but otherwise we were alone. The sun was already really strong today, uiuiui....that was great. A small, fine and beautiful tour in the Tübingen region. We send you our warmest regards and wish you a nice day 😇☘️🌸☀️🙋‍♀️🐾

Nice hiking trail from the Hirschau cemetery over the Spitzberg towards the Wurmlinger chapel. From the mountain you have beautiful views of the Neckar valley and over the vineyards to the chapel and on the way back the old dry stone walls on the slope are impressive. Unfortunately the lizards were not to be seen today.

A long time ago....almost all the time 👍🏻 The weather doesn't matter then ❄️☔️🥶The main thing is a nice community 👍🏻🤩 The Spitzbergwegle always works because it's not too muddy ☺️ Afterwards we went to the new Cafe Lieb bei Hornbach, which is really recommended 👍🏻☺️🙋‍♀️🙋🏼

Beautiful but very hot path today on the Hirschauer Spitzberg 🦌 The first part is pleasantly shady in the forest (Pfaffenberg) with a view of the Wurmlinger chapel The way back is then through blooming poor meadows with dry stone walls. Everywhere goat's-belt tongues orchids and orchids. 🤩🤩

With blue skies and sunshine ☀️ the hike "Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle" to great views of the Alb, including a view of the castle 🏰 Hohenzollern. At the Wurmlinger chapel we were then surprised by a short snow shower from the direction of Herrenberg. The way back to Hirschau went through the vineyards, past the deer 🦌.

The fruit trough Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle is a premium hiking trail. It offers great views of the Schönbuch and the Swabian Alb. We made a detour to the Wurmlinger chapel, which you can see again and again from the path. From the chapel hill you have a beautiful all-round view. On the way to the chapel, we mainly went on small paths through the forest, back on dirt roads through old stone terraces and vineyards. The path is beautiful for adults, for children it offers little exciting apart from a playground.
