Hiking

A sun-drenched alpine ridge with views over the hills of the Allgäu glowing yellow in autumn and a densely wooded gorge where the roaring Weißach river plunges down the valley await you on your hike over the Hündlekopf to the Buchenegger waterfalls.

From the valley station of the Hündlebahn, you ascend across open meadows between scattered patches of forest. The view extends far into the Konstanzer Valley, through which delicate wisps of mist drift. The ringing of cowbells can no longer be heard at this time of year. On your way to the Sennalpe Oberhündle, you will enjoy the captivating tranquility that this route has to offer. After a short rest with the sun-warmed wood of the hut wall at your back, you will head up to the Hündlekopf. The lightly sugared peaks of the Nagelfluh chain and the steel-blue Großer Alpsee are clearly visible from here.

The postcard-perfect views accompany you until you turn into a narrow valley not far from the Turaalpe. With every step, it becomes cooler and dimmer, the rushing louder. Surrounded by one of the region's last primeval forests, you reach the approximately eighteen-meter-deep plunge pools that the Weißach has scoured into the Nagelfluh rock over millennia at the Buchenegger waterfalls. Fine spray settles on your skin.

Refreshed, you climb out of the valley. The path leads back to the starting point of your hike across meadows and light forests on the slopes of the Hündle. You can easily reach the valley station of the Hündlebahn by bus from Oberstaufen.

Hündlekopf Summit

Highlight • Summit

The Hündlekopf, at 1,111 meters, is the ridge of the Hündle mountain and one of the most popular viewing summits around Oberstaufen. It is easy to hike up. If you want to spare yourself the partly steep ascent, simply take the gondola. At the summit cross, you have a great view of the Großer Alpsee and the Nagelfluhkette.

Panoramic view at Turaalpe

Highlight • Viewpoint

At around 900 meters, the Turaalpe offers a fantastic panorama. On one side, the Nagelfluhkette rises with the distinctive Hochgrat, while on the other, your gaze wanders over the rolling hills of the Alpine foothills. The lush green meadows are home to crocuses and many colorful flowers, especially in spring.

Buchenegger Waterfalls

Highlight • Waterfall

The fall of the powerful masses of water over the two stages at the Buchenegg waterfalls is an impressive natural experience. The waterfalls are located in one of Germany's last primeval forests. They can be reached either via Steibis or via Buchenegg or on the south side of the Hündle summit.

Especially when wet, the steep descent or ascent on both sides of the slope can be very slippery. We recommend good footwear and sure-footedness.
Attention: Since 2021, there are no longer any parking facilities in Buchenegg!

August 23, 2022,D-87534 Hinterstaufen Hündlekopf-Buchenegger Wasserfälle-Bad Rain
Today, after a long time, there was another beautiful hike. The start was in Hinterstaufen at the valley station of the Hündle Bahn.
First we climbed the mountain steeply on a paved hiking trail to the mountain station of the railway.
Then the path continued to the 1112m high Hündlekopf. From here you can enjoy a fantastic view.
It then …

We decided at short notice yesterday to go to the Allgäu. My wife searched and found something. No rain and hopefully tick-free area.
The drive to the valley station of the Hündlebahn suited me perfectly due to the early shift of the last few days.
The first 75 minutes of parking in the car park are free, otherwise a €5 …

After almost 50 minutes of gravel and asphalt you have reached the Hündlekopf and, if you let go early enough, you can enjoy the view in peace ... until you reach the Alpsee.
Then it goes downhill over gravel and asphalt, along the Nagelfluh rock typical of this region.
At the entrance to the descent to the Buchenegger waterfalls there …

Today is a shorter tour again. Therefore a little faster. At the waterfall you can extend the tour by walking back via Steibis. Then it is about 8 km longer.

After a 🤧 break, I felt an urgent need for a little mountain air and therefore made a leisurely tour of the Hündle summit with a detour to the Buchenegger waterfalls! You can park for free in the Hündlebahn car park.

Thanks to @Tanja Alpenzauber for the inspiration

Today was the 300th tour with komoot. Since the weather didn't offer the best distant views and there was rain at the beginning, we took the cable car up to Hündle. After a hot drink, we set off for a leisurely round. Past the summit cross, we then went straight down into the valley towards the Buchenegger Waterfalls. It's nice …

At 8 a.m. we were almost alone at the free parking lot of the Hündlebahn where our hike to the waterfalls began. We walked the beautiful route all by ourselves to the waterfall, which we could enjoy alone 🤩😍. Only when we went back in the direction of the Hündlekopf did a number of other hikers come towards us. At …
