It is ideal for everyone who is good on foot and has good stamina 😁💪
After a good night's sleep and a great breakfast, we went on the water route of the Hohe Mark Steig. Great landscape. Forest, floodplains, rivers and lakes. Weather was also completely OK. But on 80% asphalt and 100% hard roads, it's not really fun.
https://www.hohe-mark-steig.de/ "This hike is an extra tour to the Hohe Mark Steig and is all about water. From the starting point at the natural outdoor pool in Olfen, the first five kilometers are parallel to the Stever on the Alter Postweg. Then you reach the forebay of the Hullern reservoir. On the shore benches invite you to linger and wonderful views await you between forest and water. After eight kilometers you will come across two beautiful picnic areas at the Steverbrücke - the perfect place to enjoy your provisions. The trail then runs along the southern shore of the Hullern reservoir. In some places you can easily reach the water and cool your feet. The Heimingshof then offers itself for a stop and after a refreshment you change the bank again. At the Hoher Niemen campsite, the Stever widens again and becomes the Halterner reservoir. You already know its magnificent water landscapes from the fifth stage. Following the Carl-Hohmann-Weg, you will reach the sailing port. Walk through the Westuferpark to Haltern train station, from where you can start your journey home." 🐻****************************************🐻 Arrival and departure with the 🚌 Public transport 🚃 on this tour: + Am Westendorp, Olfen (Kr Coesfeld)/(Start) + Station, Haltern am See (destination) 🐻****************************************🐻
The "water route" is an additional stage of the Hohe Mark Steig, which leads from Olfen back to Haltern am See. Its theme is: "Wander through the Shire; experience a water landscape at its most beautiful, discover rare species." This very beautiful stage, which begins at the natural swimming pool in Olfen, not only runs along the water, but also often through avenues and green deciduous forests. For the first 4.5 km, the high proportion of asphalt - but mostly without traffic - disturbs the hiker, while the cyclists can look forward and concentrate on enjoying nature. After about 5 km we reach the water landscape of the Steever and the Hullern reservoir. From here we have a varied mixture of forest enjoyment and water landscapes with a variety of resting opportunities that invite you to linger and enjoy - and were accordingly heavily frequented on May 1st. Between km 8.5 and km 10.0 there are several small but nice chapels and old court crosses to enjoy nature. When we reach the Hohe Niemen bay and the Haltern reservoir after about 13 km, loud music resounds towards us. We hit the bottom a few hundred meters further: we meet the traditional Halterner May March, one of the most important days in Haltern am See. Masses of young people walk around the Haltern reservoir celebrating with hand-drawn music floats and mini discotheques and then celebrate a big party at the Westuferpark (WUP). At the end of the tour we enjoy a few more beautiful views of the Haltern reservoir before we go through the west bank park to the end point at the town hall.
Today the water route of the Height Mark Steig was on the program. A home game for me. To be honest, this stage is not one of my favorites...too much asphalt and dirt roads for my taste. Nevertheless, the many views of the lakes are of course a highlight that you have to hike along. You can find everything about our experiences on the water route in our blog article: https://wanderfrei.de/die-wasserroute-die-extratour-des-hohe-mark-steigs/
Today we went on the water route of the Hohe Mark Steig. All in all a nice additional stage, but in my opinion not a hiking route but rather suitable for cycling. Not enough off-grid sections that hikers love so much. So if this route, then by bike and not on weekends or public holidays In my personal ranking, the tour gets the 4 "🌳"🌳"🌳🌳 X Good route (too much asphalt and gravel) X Interesting places "🌳" Relaxation (not on weekends) 🌳Nature experience "🌳"Benches and places to stay (not on weekends) 🌳 Shelter on the route
Very nice route! Highly recommended 👍 Unfortunately, the weather wasn't so nice. Nevertheless, it was worth it and we had a lot of fun 🥰🐕🐾

Terrible: 5 km of walking on a tarred bike path to the swimming pool - this is by far the stupidest stage and has nothing to do with hiking😡
