What earned the Klosterweg the German hiking seal of approval "Premium Trail"? Its unique way of captivating hikers with its diverse landscape. With a total length of a good 18 adventurous kilometers, it leads you through three stream valleys and to several panoramic heights. Incidentally, it connects the Rheinsteig in Rengsdorf with the WesterwaldSteig in Waldbreitbach and runs through an extremely attractive spot, the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park. The Klosterweg is always worth a visit.
The trail starts directly in Rengsdorf at the St. Kastor Chapel. From here, you make your way through the Römergraben natural monument into the idyllic Laubach Valley and from there on to Ehlscheid. If you're already feeling like it, this is a great place to take a break – the local restaurants are particularly knowledgeable about hikers and their needs.
Crossing the Gommerscheider Höhe with spectacular views all the way to Malberg and then across the deep Dombachtal valley, you soon reach the next village, Kurtscheid – this time with a lookout tower. From there, it's all downhill: the Fockenbachtal valley immerses you in magnificently rolling meadow landscapes. You pass the Neuerburg castle ruins and cross the Burgseifen stream. Then, accompanied for a short stretch by the lively Fockenbach stream, you climb via Ackerhof up to Glockscheid.
The local St. Marienhaus monastery invites you to stroll through its gardens and halls. The terrace promises a magnificent view of the Wiedtal valley. It is considered the first possible destination of the monastery trail. If you haven't had enough yet, you can also continue from here to the parish church of "Maria Himmelfahrt" in Waldbreitbach, the final destination of today's tour.
Tip: To get from the end of your tour back to the starting point, you can use a shuttle service. You can find information here: https://www.wiedtal.de/wandern/wander-service.html
