Between Welschneudorf and Oberelbert, a wonderful stretch of greenery awaits you. In all forms - sometimes you walk through sparse forest, sometimes across wide meadows. All in all: a wonderful piece of earth!

St. Joseph's Church, Niederelbert

Highlight • Religious Site

This pretty church in neo-Romanesque style is the landmark of Niederelbert. From several elevated vantage points around the town you can enjoy a clear view of the impressive building. But it is also worth taking a look inside.

May 2, 2025, Wäller Tour Elberthöhen – Niederelbert

Very nice hike (of course, it's a Wäller tour😄) with many great paths and trails through beech forests.

Top marked👍, no problem even without Komoot. Through shady forests and over heights with a view. There was also water for 🐕‍🦺.

https://www.westerwald.info/d/waeller-tour-elberthoehen-niederelbert/ Today's tour took us to Niederelbert on the Wäller Tour - Elberthöhen. Another designated circular route that's very pleasant to walk. We had no trouble following the trail. There aren't any real highlights on the tour, apart from wide meadows, beautiful views, and the occasional church. Nevertheless, the tour is very beautiful, and we were able to relax in the most beautiful forests and on small paths. The Steinkaut viewpoint and the churches in Niederelbert and Welschneudort are, however, worth mentioning. A beautiful day in the Westerwald with pleasant temperatures, albeit with the occasional raindrop. Have a nice Sunday everyone 🙋🏻‍♂️ Westerwald Collection: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/2148991/-o-du-schoener-westerwald

The train isn't running due to a strike, so I booked a Cambio car and went on a tour that can't be reached by train anyway: the Wäller tour "Elberthöhen". The Westerwäler people call themselves “Wäller”; the Wäller tours are beautiful circular routes in the Westerwald. Today's tour from Niederelbert is not particularly spectacular, but it is beautiful. A lot of it goes through the forest (about half of it), certainly nice in the summer, a lot of forest paths, but they are made of fine gravel and are very easy to walk on (not, like sometimes on the Sieg, so much gravel that you think they are building them). just a railway). The other half through meadow landscapes, some with very wide views. I got a lot out of the wonderful sunny weather!

What a start to the week. 🤩 Wind, sun, smell of rapeseed and a giant boletus (if it was one) on a promising tour. Here, wide views alternate with wonderful beech forests. The last wolf in the Westerwald was killed in the “Wolfskirkort” forest in 1886. He is now back. A young male wolf has recently settled near Hachenburg and is considered native. The fact that I took a wrong turn at the end was definitely destiny. ☕️🥪😅

And today I headed back to the beautiful Westerwald. Today's tour? Of course, it's a relatively short journey from Koblenz. The starting point for my tour today was in Niederelbert: https://www.westerwald.info/d/waeller-tour-elberthoehen-niederelbert/ This circular trail is located very close to the Wäller Tour Buchfinkenland and is just as worthwhile. It's just as varied, leads through open spaces and forests, and offers beautiful views of the Westerwald. However, I had a small problem today with the last 800 meters: I personally found both the GPX files I downloaded from the internet for navigation and the signage at the end of the trail unclear. From there, I chose a different section towards Niederelbert, thus getting back on the planned route and to my starting point. Niederelbert is not an unknown place for me as a starting point for a hike. Since January 1, 2024, I've decided to establish the Gickelsweg trail there as my New Year's hike. A little tradition can't hurt when it comes to hiking and pilgrimage. This year, too, this circular route was the first I walked. And I've already marked it for January 1, 2026. We'll wait and see if I establish and maintain this as a tradition. I'd like to share a subjective impression here, which I'm naturally happy to be contradicted. Of course, I've done one or two Wäller tours in the past. I'm currently having a similar experience, today as I did then: Dream Trails and Dream Loops in the greater Koblenz area seem to be more popular and therefore more frequented than the Wäller tours. Of course, I'm also aware that this is due to the slightly higher temperatures currently prevailing. Understandably, even weather like this doesn't entice everyone into nature, especially for challenging trails. Personally, however, I have the impression that I always meet other hikers on dream trails and dream loops, regardless of the weather.

....a small loop through Oberelbert and around Welschneudorf as an extra.

A beautiful route, with some annoying traffic noise at the beginning. However, you're rewarded with fantastic views after the halfway point. 👍🏻
