Hiking

The landscape around the Hermannsweg is truly diverse. This tour takes you into the mystical Alpine landscape with sandy paths, delicate lilac heathland, and fascinating moorland. Along the way, you'll also visit Oerlinghausen's landmark.

Your hike starts centrally near the Alexander Church, where you'll find plenty of parking. The Brachtshof bus stop is your starting point if you plan to arrive by public transport. From here, the trail goes straight up to the Tönsberg, where the Kumsttonne windmill stump is located: the town's landmark. In the mid-18th century, the mill lost its wings and remained up here in this condition.

The trail continues to be hilly, as you now walk along the foot of several mountains. Among them are the Ravensberg, the Hermannsberg, and the Hörster Berg – to name just a few. The Dören Gorge will enchant you with its fragrant pines, then the landscape transforms into expansive heathland with plenty of sand and low trees.

You'll hike along the edge of the Senne River and, at the end of the tour, you can take a look at the Archaeological Open-Air Museum, which displays finds from the area.

The Kumsttonne is now Oerlinghausen's landmark. The stump of a former windmill, built on the Tönsberg in the 18th century, can still be seen.

Fragrant pines, winding paths, and a hint of steppe with sandy soils. This area has a touch of the Mediterranean feel. A wonderful area in every season.

Very nice view with two loungers. So you have to be there outside of prime time.

Covering an area of one and a half hectares, the Archaeological Open-Air Museum in Oerlinghausen lets you experience life from the Paleolithic period to the Early Middle Ages. Stables and typical dwellings have been reconstructed here, making it feel like walking in the footsteps of the ancient Vikings. A particularly enjoyable experience for children!

June 7, 2021,Hermannshöhen: Durch den Sand der Senne
I ended up in the eastern Teutoburg Forest for a short time after I discovered that I had numerous planned tours there that were waiting to be implemented.
Today it went from Oerlinghausen over the Hermannshöhenweg to the headwaters of the Rethlager brook, where I started the return tour (if I had followed the HHW, I would have stood at …

The Hermannsweg leads from Oerlinghausen up to the Tönsberg over sandy paths lined with pine forests. From here you follow the Oerlinghauser meditation path, which is lined with numerous stones with virtuous inscriptions. The burial mounds, which are under monument protection, are considered witnesses of the Bronze Age.
On the ridge path of the Teutoburg Forest you also pass the …

Today we went back to the Teutoburg Forest in search of our ancestors. I started in Oerlinghausen and then headed towards the Senne and Teutoburg Forest nature conservation project. Along the Ochsentour you can encounter forest cattle and wild horses, and you can look far across the country along the Senne and the Augustdorf military training area. A beautiful hiking …

As Lichtenauer, I would like to tackle this close tour shortly.

What is the current path with regard to Flo's comment from February? Is it still being cleared or have the paths even been prepared again?

Greetings from Lichtenau!
