This tour is truly in the heart of Europe. The Ourtal between Tintesmühle and the town of Ouren is narrow, steep and rustic here. The river has dug its way deep into the Rhenish Slate Mountains. The Our used to be home to thousands of river pearl mussels. In order for the population to recover, there is a breeding station for these rare river inhabitants in the Kalborn mill. Halfway through the tour you reach the European monument in Ouren. For each of the six founding countries of United Europe there is a large stone block in the park of the European monument.

After a short and violent ascent to the Königslei, fantastic views over the treetops open up. The brook loops cheerfully. Dragonflies shimmer in the sun and brown trout glitter in the crystal clear water. Rare alluvial forest stands flank the Our. They are among the most vital living spaces in Europe! Kingfisher and heron hunt here. You might even see a black stork.

Here you can visit three countries on a short tour. The borders of Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany meet at the border triangle in the Ourtal. There is also the European monument here. Despite the touristic interesting location, it is mostly quiet and idyllic here. The Our flows peacefully through the green valley. A really nice area.

After the ascent to the Königslei, the big reward awaits you at the top: High above the Our you have a unique view of the picturesque river valley.

April 19, 2025,NaturWanderPark delux Nat'Our Route 1
This route is marked out by the NaturWanderPark delux (Germany Luxembourg) and follows the river Our on two sides. This relatively short walk surprises with nice rocky paths and somewhat wilder paths next to the Our. This walk finds a nice balance between spectacular and walkability (if that is an existing word). At the hamlet of Tintesmühle the river is …

We didn't like the route on the German side quite as much.
Almost entirely gravel paths through intact forest.
The climb to Königslay wasn't worth it.
The view was quite overgrown.
The tri-border region is quite nice.
Back on the Luxembourg side, the route was to our liking.
Rustic root-covered paths with rocky trails.

We start at the Europadenkmal at the three-country point of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Germany.
The Our forms the border here and we start with the Luxembourg side. Past a picnic spot and a side valley, the asphalt turns into an unpaved, wide path. The water sometimes flows next to us, sometimes further away, or into the …
