Fantastic day in Luxembourg 🇱🇺🥾 Pictures say more than words! It was a great day with the best company 😊 We stopped off in Echternach, we had a good time 😋
Our tour started today in Echternach, the oldest city in Luxembourg. Once we crossed the Sûre River, we were back in the German Southern Eifel region. First, however, we headed to the Luxembourg side, into the fantastic Wolf and Devil's Gorge. Then a quick detour to the Wäschekammer (laundry room) and via Weilerbach Castle up to the pigpens. There was absolutely nothing going on there, even though the rocky path up there in the Southern Eifel is a really great walk. Past the Türkenkopf and to the Geierslee, a lookout point, we then descended steeply back to Echternach. That was quite a lot of kilometers today. But it's definitely worth seeing. Not quite as spectacular as yesterday, but with plenty of forest and moss charm!
Today we did the rock path no. 1 from Echternach. It is very beautiful, but also difficult. I don't know how many steps we climbed today. The weather was good. When it's raining or wet, some sections can be almost dangerous. Absolutely worth seeing 😊👋
As training for our Westweg, we set off again today into the German-Luxembourg border region. We covered a good 22 kilometers and gained 700 meters of elevation on this circular route. We highly recommend this trail! Magnificent rock formations are lined up like a string of pearls, and Weilerbach Castle and the historic old town of Echternach also provide a distinct cultural experience. There is one caveat: Due to the high demands on surefootedness and fitness, this trail is for experienced hikers. Of course, you can visit the castle and the town center separately. Another tip: You can enjoy delicious, inexpensive meals at the "Beim Gina" bistro.
This time I had packed my rain gear ☝🏻 because the weather was a bit crazy. In Echternach I had sleet. But no matter, it was still beautiful, I just love these rocks. The advantage of the weather is that you are practically alone in the rock world.
After Bohemian Switzerland, now we discovered Little Switzerland. What a beautiful region, very similar to what we saw last week in the Czech Republic and Germany, but now with a blissful sun instead of buckets of rain! 😎
After a good night's sleep in the Gasthaus - pension zum Golfstübchen apartment and a delicious breakfast we set off. Really a fantastic walk, not too difficult or technical, but with a considerable distance. We deviated from the route after 8-9km to have a cup of coffee in Berdorf (where my cycling life began almost 40 years ago and where I won my first time trial uphill). Then we continued walking quietly in fantastic weather and finished with a cold drink in Echternach.😍🥰
Viking journey 7801: Müllerthal - simply "fairytale-like". Hike D starts in Echternach. The free parking lot at the entrance to the town was closed due to construction work. The parking garage next door cost me €3 for 6 hours of parking. I say goodbye to my wife and set off on the tour as a "lone wolf" and cross the Sauer into Germany. It goes uphill through a residential area into the forest where forest and forest paths with forest floors make hiking pleasant. I'd better not bring up the subject of "steps" because... the German-Luxembourg Rock Trail also has plenty of them. You are again rewarded with spectacular rock formations and impressive nature. 🥰 It's a shame that the photos can't convey the great impressions. You just have to see it with your own eyes.
