This route was planned by komoot.
Today is stage 1 of the Wicklow Way, which has been planned since February. We had stayed in a very nice cottage in Bunclody and the hosts drove us to Clonegal for the start of the trail this morning. Then it was first for 5 km on the road long. Nothing to compare with our roads....Most drivers are very considerate and even salute. Then it went through the forest for a while. The brakes were terrible, it was just wagging. Still, I looked like I had been in battle, with blood all over my legs. It was like this today: either sunburn or insect bite...🫣. After a while it was back on the road, then a short climb to below Mount Stookeen and through woods again. Komoot also went limp for a moment. The last 5 miles to The Dying Cow pub was road only which was a real challenge. The woman who invited us to an ice-cold Coa right out of her kitchen was great. A beautiful day, despite the heat.
This was now our 1st stage of the Wicklow Way😀. The sky was blue, the sun was beating down, a full 30 degrees. The coniferous forests here are lush green and healthy. It's green, blooming and fragrant everywhere. The people are very friendly, they always greeted us when we jumped aside on the really narrow streets to avoid being run over. In the forest, the brakes almost ate us. An elderly woman was sitting on the side of the road in front of her house and asked where we were going, we chatted briefly, she even brought us ice-cold cola from her kitchen, which awakened the wanderlust. In short, it was a very nice hike!👍😀
