This hike on Lake Constance is like a whole vacation day on foot: diverse, scenic, and always close to the water. It combines the best of the region: historical sites, nature experiences, and wide views over the glittering lake.

From the old town in Überlingen, the path leads you relaxed along the shore towards Uhldingen. Again and again, small accesses to the water invite you to cool your feet or jump right into the clear blue. In between: orchards, nature reserves, and quiet sections that give you the feeling of being all alone.

A real highlight is the Birnau Basilica: not only architecturally impressive, but also because of the panorama that opens up here. Later, a detour to the stilt house museum in Unteruhldingen is worthwhile, where history comes alive.

The last section leads you on the Höhenweg (high-altitude trail) through vineyards towards Meersburg, with ever-new views.

This tour is long, but easy to enjoy. And if you like, it ends very relaxed on the water – with a return trip by ship.

The SeeLinie 7395 (bus) also takes you back to the starting point regularly.

Seefelder Aach Estuary Nature Reserve

This beautiful 55-hectare area on Lake Constance includes the unique estuary of the Seefelder/Linzer Aach and is home to rare animal and plant species such as fish, insects, waterfowl, reptiles, amphibians and marsh irises as well as the snowball. Beautiful routes can be explored on foot or by bike to observe nature and water birds such as pochards and great crested grebes. Don't forget binoculars!

Pfahlbaumuseum Unteruhldingen

The stilt house museum Unteruhldingen is located on Lake Constance in Baden-Württemberg and displays archaeological finds and replicas of stilt villages from the Stone and Bronze Ages. It consists of 23 stilt houses, a museum building, and a research institute. The museum is known as one of the largest open-air museums in Europe and attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually. Stilt houses are remains of settlements from the Stone and Bronze Ages and are of great archaeological interest. In 2011, more than 2,000 stilt house sites in lakes and moors in Europe were declared UNESCO World Heritage sites. The excellently preserved stilt houses offer an insight into the lives of people from 7,000 years ago.

A short trip by train from Ulm via Friedrichshafen to Überlingen. From there, we walked to Birnau Monastery
(very worth seeing). A small kiosk invites you to linger. The coffee and cake were excellent.
In Unteruhldingen, we then climbed the HW 9.
This leads through the forest to Meersburg, with some magnificent views of the lake.
