After a long journey to the trailhead in Hemavan (Sweden), today we start on the northern Kungsleden.... I'm awake before the alarm goes off. The sun is shining through the window of my spartan room in the mountain center in Hemavan. I get up, make coffee, have breakfast, pack my backpack and off I go. A little after eight I finally stand at the southern trailhead of the northern Kungsleden, which has been on my mind for so long. From here, around 470 km of trail await me with everything a hiker's heart desires. Pure nature, far away from traffic and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The weather in the morning is perfect. Blue sky and plenty of sun, so the first few kilometers fly by in no time. I wander through small birch forests and look out from the heights at an incredible landscape. Below me, endless forests interspersed with lakes, roads? None! Shortly afterwards and a few meters further on, I'm standing in the mountains. Endless expanses open up, bordered only by the surrounding mountains. I reach the Viterskaletstugan in the morning and after a few friendly words with the hut owner I move on.
I started the last day comfortably. First further down through the glacier valley. There were still many blueberries to be eaten. Dan led the way up over the mountains to get to Hemavan. From the cable car station, the path felt like a long stretch. You can already see your destination, but the path leads in an arc to the Naturum in Hemavan, which was then also closed. “Only open during the season.” I found my goal in the Fjäll-Center.
